Emiliano Zapata is a good example of a revolutionary. He fought in the Mexican Revolution, from 1910 to 1919, the year he was assassinated. Zapata and his folowers, the Zapatistas, fought to have the ejidos, communal lands, returned to peasant villages. Zapata formulated the Plan de Ayala. It was based on land reform. There were three bases for land reform: 1. Land usurped in the past from its rightful owners was to be restored; the armed villagers were authorized to take immediate possession of these lands. 2. One-third of the lands of the haciendas were to be expropriated by reason of public utility and with prior indemnification in order to provide ejidos, colonias (colonies), and fundos legales (private rural properties) for those who did not receive sufficient lands under the first provision. 3. Finally, any hacendados, cientificos, or caciques (local political bosses) who opposed the Plan would have all their property nationalized without indemnification. Upon victory of the revolution, a convention of the principal revolutionary chieftains of the nation would name an interim president of the republic who would in turn call for general elections. This information is from the book "Zapata: The Ideology of a Peasant Revolutionary," by Robert P. Millon. There are numerous books on Zapata, and many websites as well. You shouldn't have any trouble finding information about him. Hope that this helps you with your exam. Is this a college paper, or high school paper? Not to be nosey, I'm just curious.
"The enemies of the country and of freedom of the people have always denounced as bandits those who sacrifice themselves for the noble causes of the people."
- Emiliano Zapata

By the way, welcome to the group. I'm a new member too. I've only been here a couple of days longer than you have. Anyway, I look forward to sharing information and opinions. Adios.

Do you specifically want socialist examples, or would you like to compare socialist revolutionaries to capitalist revolutionaries?
