Dali always was an odd one...he had some strange obsession with sodomy, and was frantically afraid of grass hoppers. I love his artwork though...well some of it...like that skull picture. i enjoy his double image drawings. the face of war is also a good one, and the one who's title i can't remember, but it was like this weird dream or vision he got from watching a bee fly around a pommagranit, and it showed him this image of a woman floatin above a pedestal, with a gun and bayonette pointed at her, with a tiger leaping at the gun from another tiger's mouth, which had leaped from a fish's mouth, which was leaping from a pommegranit. it was odd. i have a book of dali somewhere, if i find it, i'll write the title...but yeah. good stuff.

Not really my favorite, but not a hopeless eccentric. He did some great work.

I like artwork taht's a little more subtle in what it's trying to express, but for that "genre", I guess you'd say, he's one of the best.

I possess one of the original lithos of Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea(also known as Lincoln in Dalivision) numbered 75 of 350 and signed by Dali himself.

The lithographs were destroyed after the 350th print.

PM me if you are interested.

I love his "Visage of War". A real gothic touch. There are others I like that I cannot remember the title.

He may have been weird, but I think he had great artistic ability. He was a strange born again Catholic who somehow out of that loved Freud.

I'm torn really - what does one do with a fascist like Dali?

(Steal his artwork. Twist it to suit yr situation. Spit on his grave. Enjoy.)

Genius or Hopeless Eccentric

I'm not sure the two are mutually exclusive, but anyhoo...

As a painter, his technique was exquisite and his imagination pretty amazing, but throughout his career he sometimes pandered to what he knew would sell, 'avida dollars' and whatnot. Still an incredible artist, though not without flaw. Who is, though?

Genius.

I've heard about Dali being a fascist. Did he support General Franco or something? Can someone elaborate on this?

Genius.

I fail to see what, exactly, about being eccentric deems one 'hopeless'. Might I add, an emphasis on 'normal' behavior is identified with 'Fascism' and is certainly contrary to the goals of communists (if you are trying to rebel against a society, why not reject its notions regarding normal behavior?)

This is such a good, good point and bears repeating.
