Somebody recommended this disc to me when we were talking about The Roots, who use combine jazz and hip-hop. They're very good, by the way.

But I also heard and read many reviews of this album that say that it's very mediocre, or even Miles Davis's worst. What do you guys think? Is this a good album or not?

I just listened to some of a few of the tracks on amazon and it's certainly more jazz-oriented than other stuff I've heard. The jazz element is a bit weak. I'd certainly expect more from Davis. Not so bad, though. The hip-hop beats are kinda trite. But not as bad as some people made it out to seem. probably won't get this one.

Any thoughts.

its definetly not miles' best. i guess i'm sorta clichéd, but i prefer sketches of spain, and kind of blue. and i love kind of blue, cause i was in a jazz ensemble that played all blues...so i'm a bit attatched :P

How exactly is Kind of Blue blues?
Sounds like jazz to me.
But, yeah, I like that album too. A milestone in music history it is.

oh i agree completely, i wouldn't call it blues by any means...so i guess the title is rather misleading...

I can understand disliking a prticular artist or style, but how can dislike all jazz? If I were you I'd get to know the genre a little bit better before you make up your mind that you dislike it.

Miles was a little more of an acquired taste for me than Mingus and Trane. For about a week I listened to nothing but Mingus Ah Um and A Love Supreme. Most anything by Thelonious Monk also pwns. Also check out Stan Getz.
