As you probably don't know, Sarajevo is the only European capital without Mc Donald’s. Well, that is going to change in near future. Sarajevo will become a slave of globalisation/Americanisation in two months. I am asking you to help me with your suggestions and ideas how we in Sarajevo can fight that evil disease called Mc Donald’s?

Well, it is not cheap because you can by hamburger in some other place for at least half price. Fast? Man where are you living, it is so crowded that you have to wait to get your order until you don't feel hunger any more. CLEAN ??? In one Mc Donald's restaurant in London they spit in your order before you get it.
But these are not the reasons for boycotting Mc Donald's.

write letters to the person owning the building where the mc donalds will come.write letters to city hall, make flyers to hand out to people in the streets,or disrupt the building activity's,vandalise the mcdonalds and so on,but I don't think you can stop it.they have mcdonalds in every major city in the world.
or you should start your own fast food restaurant in the building, next to the mcdonalds, and make it so good that all the people come to you.

even better, get people to buy the shops next door and compete with them, get them outta business, and then use the money for commie activities, u got 2months, should be easy, get 100 commies, make a world appeal, everyone gives £10 easy as fuck, then u give the people back their money.

While you buying the building have a mobile place, and urge people to buy yugoslav not imperialist yankee shit

Ok do all things already mentioned but you also need direct action. Find the Mclibel court case website, order or print off the leaflet 'whats wrong with Mcdonalds' and distribute outside every weekend. Also a sustained campaign of vandalism, bomb threats and so forth will send a clear messgae. I live near London there are up to 6 Mcdonalds on some streets, you do not know what will happen if you do not fight this.

The McLibel Trial is the infamous British court case between McDonald's and a postman & a gardener from London (Helen Steel and Dave Morris). It ran for two and a half years and become the longest ever English trial. The Judge delivered his verdict in June 1997.

The verdict was devastating for McDonald's. The judge ruled that they 'exploit children' with their advertising, produce 'misleading' advertising, are 'culpably responsible' for cruelty to animals, are 'antipathetic' to unionisation and pay their workers low wages. But Helen and Dave failed to prove all the points and so the Judge ruled that they HAD libelled McDonald's and should pay 60,000 pounds damages. They refused and McDonald's knew better than to pursue it.

Also download the anachist cookbook it comes with a small section on how to terrorize Mcdonalds, set the example here

During the neoliberalist-leaning most corrupt administration in Puerto Rico's 54 year "democracy" McDonalds planned to build a restaurant in Plaza de Colón, at the entrance of Viejo San Juan, the second oldest city (Now a part of greater San Juan.) in the Western Hemisphere. Naturally, the people were in an uproar, but less action was taken, due to the other mass protests and strikes for Governor Dr. Pedro Rosselló's plan to privataize the PR Telephone Company. Both battles we lost and PR is suffering the effects today.

My words of advice is to stop at all costs (No terrorism, though!) the construction of McDonalds in Sarajevo. Get the gov't involved. *

In PR, the local gov't was in favor of the construction, due to the lack of respect of our culture. (They were pro-statehood, thus anti-Puerto Rican and pro-binding to USA consumerism) Save Sarajevo and Bulkan culture!

Comrades,

Thank you very much for your advices and proposals. Hobo, the site is great, I will use it in my campaign. Red, I do live in Sarajevo at the moment but I cannot vandalise the building of facilities because the building is already built. It is the City Pub where last couple of generations grew up. The saddest fact of all stories is that they plan to open McDonald's in the hart of old city, 600 years old mixture of Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian architecture. Not only that they will infest my city with the evil of McDonald’s, but they will also destroy historical centre.

It's so sad. Mc Donalds disgust me. They cut down rainforests, kill animals cruely and have brainwashing advertising campaigns and no matter how much you tell most people in the uk they dont care. It's sick. It's such a shame that a place unspoilt by the worldide evil thatis Mc Donalds is soon to be infected by the capitalist bug :(

In a land torn apart by war and poverty, how can somebody be so selfish, eating their fat-dripping burgers,
while poor people in the city and in the fields die of hunger?
This is a sad example of where capitalism really stands for.

The fat and wealthy elite, who consume the biggest part of all the wealth, while the masses live in
deepest poverty.

I say: inform everyone where Mcshit really stands for, than hold mass-demonstrations or boycotts.
Or just throw a Molotov inside at night that’ll teach them a lesson!

Millau is where a French farmer now turned activist, José Bové, and his friends once tore down a half-built McDonalds and paraded what was left of it down the main street of their village. *

I was in sarajevo 3 months after the fighting stopped,to do an avantguarde festival, together with bosnian artists and bands, and the city was still in shock, and half a jear later, when I returned, they had internet cafe's,busses of tourists, and so on.and the tourists want their big macs!

here's a tip when walking in any major city in the world, when you get lost in the centre, just find a mcDonalds and you'll find your bus back....

It happens so quickley doesn't it. I have seen places that have been small towns with little busineses and then a few months later its cafe nero's and Mc Donalds, its so sad. Every place in the world is starting to look the same.

One good news, I find out for one guy even crazier then I am. He agreed to help me in organising the demonstration that we can connect with pro Palestinian case in order to attract as many people as possible. People here are very anti-Israel politically and that fact can make them demonstrating against McDonald's. Do you think that it is a good idea? Some kind of general anti-American demonstration on the day of McDonald's opening.

Anonymous

That is an awsome idea. a big anti-american force on the day of opening. definately go for it dude

In Estonia McD's aren't that cheap, they are always so full of people that getting your burger will take a lot of time and they aren't that proper either. Fortunately they aren't very popular here. Some Finnish fast food chains are more popular and better too (in any way).

I think that you should get some people, maybe try to convince other people, make propaganda etc.

A friend of mine is a specialis of the bad things that they put into food (I am not sure about the English word). She says that in McD they do put the natrium glytaminat and it's the worse thing... It makes people feel that they do want to eat more and more, and it's in everything made by McD. There haven't been many resarches about this things yet but it's already sure that it causes alzheimer. It's very popular in China (called also the Chinese salt) but there people eat at the same time other foodstuffs which do balance it's bad influence.

Hobo that is a great idea. They officially called all interested to apply for job in McD in Sarajevo, so I could just send couple of proposals. At least to make them think. Most people in Sarajevo don't want McD (thanks Maaja for short version :))), but city officials want to "make our city European one". Bloody fools. And they called themselves social democrats.

A curious example of making something "European", by putting something American in...

hobo
30th May 2002, 15:57
Well if the rest of Europe is full of Mcdonals and trying as hard as it can to be american and 'cool' then i guess thats the trend they intend to follow. Don't let them make that mistake, any means nesessary to stop Mcdonalds
