500 Anti-GE protesters were attacked by police during a peaceful protest
aiming to remove GE contaminated maize in a village in southwestern
France.
10 people were arrested and shortly released. Large numbers of
police and soldiers barricaded the field using tear gas and batons to
attack the protesters who included women children and women.
Jose Bove, a high profile anti-globalisation activist previously arrested and jailed
for crop decontamination was also arrested after questioning. A reuters
journalist whos foot was hit by a gas grenade was amongst 15 injured
protesters. The French government has approved tests of GM crops in 15
regions.
