View Full Version : Flyer Ideas?

I've recently become interested in making and distributing some communist-prop flyers around my school and town. My schooly library has a copier I can use for free, and we actually have a printer/copier at home, so $$$ is not an issue.
Problem is, I have no idea what to put on these flyers. Can anyone give me some useful suggestions of layouts, quotes, or other things to spark peoples' interest? I'll most definetly give plugs to Che-Lives and Marxists.org, hell, with RS's permission I may include his website also.
Any help would be appreciated mucho!

Just a piece of advice here - If I were you I would not make it immediatly obvious that it is a communist leaflet. Write some good stuff in there that will attract people to your cause, then towards the back point out that it is a marxist thing. You don't want people rubbishing your stuff as 'commie rubbish' before they even read it.

Yeah, I hear that. I'm thinking just plain old black text on white paper, no hammers or sickles, no stars, no rhetoric.
Some of the Nazi prop flyers that were handed out started simply with "THE JEWS" in big bold text, to attract people to read it. I was thinking the same thing, but more with "CAPITALISM:" as the big bold header.

Attached is a leaflet I was handing out during my election campaign, it's aimed at the working class and is headed with a local issue that directly affects them.

Do you want stuff on theory or more on current events?
Also to the size, I think A5 (half A4) is probably a good size for a leaflet. It makes it easier to hand out, and doesn't take as much paper either.

You should include websites for Labour organizations, and statistics on %of GDP spending on social programs and economic growth, you can use Canada and Denmark.
You can also point to spending cuts to education and social programs, the widening gap between the rich and the poor, crime rates and poverty.
Here's a whack of pro communist biblical quotes if you're trying to convince religious.
And if you want me to model just let me know :D
MAT 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
MAR 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
LUK 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
"When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just." --- Luke 14:12
Those who shut their ears to the cry of the poor will themselves also
call and not be heard. --- Proverbs 21:13
All that believed were together, and had all things in common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (Acts 2:44-45)
There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. There was a Levite, a native of Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement"). He sold a field that belonged to him, then brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet. (Acts 4:34-37)
This is what the Lord has commanded: Gather of it, every man of you, as much as he can eat; you shall take an omer apiece, according to the number of persons who each of you has in his tent. And the people of Israel did so; they gathered some more, some less. But when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to what he could eat (Ex. 16:16-18)
"But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
"Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. (Luke 6:24-25)
"Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
"Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
"Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. (James 5:1-3)
"For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways." (James 1:11)
"And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God." (Luke 6:20)
"Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?" (James 2:5)
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised" (Luke 4:18)

(im the original poster, name changed for, uh, aesthetic purposes...)
What does A5 or A4 or any of that rot mean? I've never been a Kinko's employee, or really worked with stationary...I'm guessing these are some kind of sizes? How do I specificy when printing my flyers on the computer?
I'd say a good mixture of theory AND events would be a winner. The Marxist spin on things going on in the world would give people some perspective, while the theory is good just for geneal awareness and knowledge.

A4 is a paper size in civilised countries. It's about letter size.
Look around new to it all for theory.

It depends what concerns you. That is what you make the flyer about. Like you got to have a subject and you have to keep it simple and catchy so that everyone can understand the flyer. And put some art in it. People may read to see what the art is all about.

This cartoon could also be useful to display the marxist arguments in a easy way.

It really depends on the fliers. You need to find the right balance between colour, boldness, pictures and text.
If you're planning on sticking it on a wall/noticeboard etc. you need it to stand out so it should be quite bold or colourful but be careful not to over do it. You still need room for enough text to make your points. Don't overcrowd the flyer either. Avoid using overly theoretic stuff as most people will just dismiss it as rubbish. Make points that relate to every day life and problems and link them into the need for socialism/communism. Even the phraseology is something you have to be careful with. Using the word 'communism' in a conservative area could do more harm than good but at the same time, if you've got a lot of kids who try to make out that they're radical, using 'communism' might attract more people.
When you're handing flyers out, you might not need to have as much colour in them as it's easier to see a flyer handed out in front of you than on a wall. It can be less eye catching but at the same time, you don't want to make it completely full of text or it will just seem boring. You don't even have to use big colourful words or the like, just use symbols or simple cartoons.
A4/A5/A6 and so on are the sizes used to grade paper. A4 is the standard size sheet of paper you'd have in a printer.
As the number gets lower, the sheet doubles in size. For example, A3 is double the size of an A4 sheet and an A2 sheet would be double the size of A3. It is repeated as the numbers increase, except that the sheet halves in size for each change.
