French ETA trial turns to chaos

click here for story (http://edition.cnn.com/2000/WORLD/europe/10/10/france.basques.reut/)

Interesting article:

A French judge has sent alleged Basque ETA terrorists back to their cells after they called magistrates and journalists "dogs" and reduced their trial to chaos.

What opinions do people on che-lives have about the ETA?

I support Basque separatism and think that when they were pushing for an independant Marxist state they should have achieved but unfortunatly their methods were stupid.

I remeber a funny song the sung at the running of the bulls about blowing up an anti-Basque member of Government in his car. It was pretty funny.

Im not too sure I support ETA. Terrorism is not a just means for promoting social change. What will killing civilians do to help the matter? It will only help delay what they want, and put so many people against them and their beliefs. I think they are wrong to do what they do.

I support ETA's aims, I see no reason why the Basques shouldn't be allowed to govern themselves. However I agree with NoMan,NoProblem in that the methods they are using are wrong. They should use peaceful protest, and if they must use force, they should target Spanish Government, Police and Military forces in the Basque region of Spain, not innocent Spaniards as that is pointless and only makes it more difficult for them to achieve independence. No-one negotiates with terrorists.

That wasn't just any member of the spanish Government, it was francisco franco's right-hand man.

They often targeted the government.

An independant Basque-Spanish state separate from Spain? Then it wouldn't be Marxist then, would it?

Why not? Please tell me if there's an obvious reason for this, but I dont undersatnd why it wouldn't be Marxist.

as a spaniard i will tell you that i support their ideas (because knowing the history of el pais vasco and being from galicia where we also see ourselves as seperate from spain), not their methods.

and no, they dont target mainly government officials. civilians are often the target in order to send a message. seems like your not seeing what im seeing here.

hopefully with zapatero things will get better.

Well from what I've heard they targeted govenment officials and their ilk with civilian casulties indirectly a result of this. I may be wrong though.

On a side note, you living in Spain proper now?

If it was done out of arrogance or ultranationalism, no.

In this case, it's more a desire to escape the oppression of the Spanish government which is a linear descendent of Franco's regime. Communists should support oppressed groups in their attempt to breakaway from the parasitic nations that fetter them.

Otherwise, despite your best intentions, you will come across as arrogant and a bit daft.
