the movie chronicles Che's thoughts before he became such a political icon internationally. The journey with Granado is probably going to skip alotta parts that the book has...which may not do the actual situation much justice.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie nonetheless.

Oh shat, the movie's out already? I thought it wasn't coming out until sometime next year! Is it going to come to any mainstream theatres? Cause' all the theatres here show "mainstream" movies.

I saw the movie last night. It took me a while to actually find a theater near me that was playing it. But once I did, I'm glad i went to go see it. What an awesome movie. It really takes you into that part of his life and gives you an in-depth view into his story.
The parts with them falling off the bike constantly were hilarious. And the ending with the real Alberto Granado standing there watching the plane fly away moved me to tears.
A truely amazing movie.

I watched the movie yesterday; I thought it was really good. I do believe that it is indicative of the person Che was and the movie didn't at any stage glorify his personality into the radical revolutionary that most people seem to think he is. While it did make subtle references to his personality, which many people perhaps failed to see, Walter Salles never harped on any aspects and I think that was what made the movie seem so real; so sublime.

I haven't seen it yet nor am I in any rush to go see it. Anything thing I've heard about it has been quite disappointing. It appears to be merely an adventure story.

Read the diaries, saw the film yesterday, it was great.
I was glad they dident dub it and used sub titles instead, it makes it more real. Obviously they couldent create it identicaly to the diaries themselves, but i think it did the justice. :che: :che: :che:

Just saw the movie.
It's in Spanish with subtitles, which I thought was excellently done. Having it in Spanish gives you a more realistic view of Ernesto and Alberto.
The movie itself has done the book alotta justice in terms of content. It left out some parts that I think would've added some more intense moments (such as when Che comes face-to-face with a Panther I believe, and reaches for a weapon).
Overall I think the movie was good, it wasn't too much about politics, and political ideas, but it did show first-hand the horrid treatment of the indigenous peoples in South America.
Good movie though, I encourage you all to see it.

Is the Che movie with Antonio Banderas going to be an "extension" of this movie or is it two seperate movies?

the 'Che' movie coming out next year should be more about his political life, and the Cuban Revolution.
The Motorcycle Diaries sorta ended off where next year's will probably begin. It's also gonna have way more publicity and the sort.

I thought it was Benicio del Toro.
I think it's meant to be drastically different from the Motorcycle Diaries. It's meant to be political, good or bad, who knows.

Yeah, the movie is in spanish with subtitles. Here in Mexico it opened just this Friday and I saw it today, it's amazing. I'm so glad Walter Salles and Robert Redford wanted to make it in spanish.

The Motorcycle Diaries movie is excellent. Really gave you incite into what made Fuser who he was. I don't want to give out any spoilers for those who haven't seen it, or read the book, but it was one of the most inspirational movies I've ever seen. The movie is brilliantly made, the scenery is awesome, and the soundtrack is REALLY good. The scene at Machu Picchu (sp) was incredible. Easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

i´ve also read the book and was quite impressed, cause i never tought that che was so unintested in politics when he was young- these book really showed me an othe side of this great man and i became more interested in him. im really happy to hear that the film is already running - i hope it comes up to my expectations.

I saw a preview screening last Wednesday night, and it surpassed my expectations. The Motorcycle Diaries is a chronicle of Che before he became fully politicised, so it was always going to be a challenge to make a faithful rendition which still indicated the later trajectory of the young Guevara. This movie is it. It is full of adventure, life, swearing, jokes, asthma attacks, sudden moments of realisation, and periods of reflection, all of which went into making Che the man he was. He was not a hero of myth, but an heroic man, with all the flaws humanity entails, and expecting the film to portray a socialist saint is missing the point entirely.
I hear it is #9 in the US (is this true?), and that it is already the highest grossing 'foreign' language film in US history.
For those of us in Australia, the film comes out on Dec 16 through Dendy cinemas.
The Benicio del Toro film is "Che", which is largely about the revolutionary period of Che's life, while the Antonio Banderas film is apparently a rendition of The Bolivian Diaries. I have no idea when these are coming out.
Oh, and there WAS no panther. It was actually the owner's dog which came sniffing around the shed where Los 'Che's were sleeping. Ernesto shot it out of fear of a panther after having been warned (in jest, apparently) that such a beast were around. I've always felt rather sorry for that pup.

The movie is great. The actor who plays Che does a great performance and it sticks very closely to the book. You can download it on www.bearshare.com but its hard to get with English subtitles but you can get it in spanish or Italian with no subtitles if thats any good to anyone here. It takes a couple of hours to download but its worth it.

I have a question for those who saw the film ....
in the scene where alberto and che are sitting between the ruins of machu pichu they talk about a revolution and alberto mentions a revolution like that of Tupac Amaru or something like that...but what does he mean with it because I never heard of tupac (except the dead rapper ofcourse)...or was it just a case of wrong subtitles because the film here has dutch subtitles and maybe something got lost in the translation process

Friend Schumi:
Tupac Amaru was one of the leaders of the indigenous people of South America who rose up against the European colonizers--The Spanish---when they came coveting the treasures of the Inca civilization and then butchered and murdered most of the Indians and then stole their land and enslaved them. Another good Indian leader is Hatuey. Here are brief histories of their lives:

The reason why I quote the message posted above is because what this person says is so sad but true. I mean, once my sister asked a young guy wearing a Che shirt if he knew who el Che was, and he told her something like "I dunno, I think some kind of a drug dealer in Colombia..."
I mean, what the ?
Very good movie. Haven't read the book but the movie is more than enough. Besides the fact of getting to know more about el "Che", all the locations, views, where the film was filmed, were astonishing.

The book is good to, bit more stuff in it. For example that Ernesto and Alberto used the "trick" of telling people they have been travelling for a year but dont have any money to celebrate it, thus getting free food and whine. Or the time that they boarded a ship without paying for it, hence Ernesto having to clean the toilets and that kinda stuff.

So by that logic if you wear a Che shirt but know a lot about him then it is o.k.? Is that's what you are saying? I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I used to wear a Che shirt and knew a lot about him. Would you hate me if you saw me wearing it without knowing anything about me?

eh... I don't remember writing anything about hating anyone... in this case, for wearing a Che shirt... so please let me know if I did...
All I did was to give my impression of the movie, and I quoted that post above only because when I saw the lines "If I see one more little punk in a Che shirt at the cinema, I'm going to fucking scream", it made me laugh and it reminded me of my sis telling me about that young punky she asked about if he knew who the guy's face on his shirt was, and he told her something like him being a drug dealer and that he was wearing it because it was kind of cool...
then when my sister told me that, I laughed and was like  ?
now, would you hate me if you saw me writing this without knowing anything about me? or without knowing what I really meant? because I don't remember saying nothing about hating anyone, or that wearing a Che shirt and knowing a lot about him was ok...
In fact, I don't know what the fuss is all about either...
I think I just should had gave my impression of the movie, and never had quoted that post. I can't believe that by only posting a message, I would began a "cyber-war" kind-of, over nothing...
I'm gone.
I think you should ask about this topic to suffianr, not me...

Finally saw it in theaters yesterday.
Aside from the scenery I hadn't heard too many great things about it so I thought the actual story might not be anything great but boy was I wrong.
Awesome movie from beginning to end. Doesn't glorify or vilify Che, it just shows a realistic (at least it seems like it'd be realistic, who knows) depiction of the events that turned his life around.
But as good as it is, it works much better if you speak Spanish or are Latin American. It just hits that much closer to home when you've personally seen the poor people that are in the film.

I am about to finally see the movie today. Also, as a side note, has anyone seen the miniseries "Fidel" in Showtime? it's about Castro from when he was a lawyer until he came into power. Gael Garcia Bernal played El Che in that movie also, which is pretty cool.

I've seen the movie twice and im going tonight to see it a third time!!! It's an incredible movie, everything about it makes it very powerful: the spanish, the scenery, the music, the actors. It's all really amazing!!! At first i wasnt too sure about the actor who played che, i thought "he'll never be able to capture the power and beauty that che beams out" but he does it well!!! Although the movie isnt suited for people who dont really know anything about che, as it doesnt explain things but for people who do know che, it's just so damn cool!!!! hehehehehe!!! If you havent seen it, do, it's well worth it!!!!!! :D

Thats nice to hear another movie is coming out about che.
More people need to hear about him, even if it bad, it will make people want to learn more about him, thus learning the truth about him.
And I bought "The Motorcycle Diaries" on DVD yesterday.
I was really surprised to see it on a self at Kmart, in IDAHO.
Very surprising.
And the movie:
It was a really touching movie towards the end, and seeing his compassion.. really touching.
I don't know if I was the only one, but did you see the slight comedic undertones at parts?
