So, I was watching tv, which is rare, but happens on occasion, and a commercial comes on hawking these "freedom silver dollars", which had been made from silver "miracuously recovered from ground zero", and which depicted on one side, "the planned Freedom tower, rising triumphantly from the ashes of the WTC", and, on the other side, a picture of the twin towers "standing majestically and inscribed with our nation's pledge; we will never forget." The it went on to the usual, "act now and collect this once in a lifetime limited production coin, 50 dollars for eac one dollar coin, limit 5 per caller"
Capitalists, if it'll make em a buck, they'll do it, whether it be Che tshirts, WTC coins, or jimi hendrix drinking a soda(screw you, pepsi).

I don't watch much T.V. either (only hockey, lacrosse, soccer, american football and other sports games), so I guess I missed the Hendrix thing, I'd remember that. . .dead people shouldn't be forced to sell brown water that tastes like battery acid
Those coins aren't even American. . .they're minted by some off shore U.S. territory (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands)

It's a shame when stuff like this just doesn't shock you any more, I mean it's what we have come to expect isn't it.
Luckily the beeb doesn't show commercials.

The CBC the Canadian publicly owned broadcast network, and the other Canadian privately owned networks are currently being sued by 'Adbusters' (a west coast magazine dedicted to destroying commercialism by dissemination of honest information), for refusing to sell advertising air time to them.
I was shocked and horrified to discover that a publicly owned network would so blatantly behave in such a capitalisticly biased manner. I hope they win their suit.
[B]From Adbusters press release, and plea for support, follows:
Networks Reject Adbusters' TV Spots
For more than a decade, Adbusters has been trying to buy airtime for its TV messages. These 15- and 30-second "social marketing" spots tackle issues from obesity to environmental destruction to consumer consumption. Never seen them before? That's because most broadcasters flatly refuse to show them. Watch the censored spots here >
Listen to the Broadcasters' rejections
When Canadian TV broadcasters rejected our spots, they gave some alarming reasons – reasons that put them squarely on-side with their corporate sponsors, like McDonald's and Wal-Mart, and directly against citizens' right to free speech on the publicly owned airwaves. We caught the conversations on tape. "[Your spots] are counter productive to what we do. We sell advertising," said Susan Orr, national sales representative for CHUM Television. Al Hudak, CTV's group director of national sales, said "we're in the business to make money, and we're in the business to sell our customers products. So why would we come out and [air your spots]?" Legal Battle: Adbusters Takes TV Networks to Court
On September 15, Adbusters launched a legal action against four of Canada's biggest television broadcasters – CTV, CanWest Global, CBC and CHUM. With prominent civil rights lawyer Clayton Ruby as our lead counsel, we're fighting for the right to buy airtime for our advocacy spots. How important is this case? For a generation that sees the media as their battleground, a victory here will mean free speech can return to the airwaves. A victory here will change everything... More
