The meat from your aguement comes from your soul. You never said you were a communist, you said you had "interest in it" which is different. If all you have is interest, and if what he believes is so solid then what is alittle bit of interest going to do to it? There is nothing wrong with learning new things. It is a big world. It don't hurt nobody to pick up a book and read about something new.
If you were a communist, I would tell you to ask yourself why you are a communist. That is the meat- because you must hold your beliefs with conviction, you know who you are! And you have your reason why you feel how you do. Just think about that.

Spend some time here at che-lives particularly in the opposing ideologies forum and you'll see how truly easy it is to debunk the capies' arguments.
Explain to him that economic inequality necessarily results in social inequality and an imbalance in power and therefore oppression and exploitation.

Also use Cuba's success as an argument. You can't argue against the facts, and the fact is that Cuba is successful.
Read some articles here (http://www.newhumanist.com/ca.html), especially this one (http://www.newhumanist.com/geiser.html).
The Communist Manifesto (http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/classics/manifesto.html) is mandatory reading. If you haven't read it yet, read it. If you don't understand something read it again.
If you have any questions on anything in particular, you can always consult this handy archive of information on communism (http://www.marxists.org/). Note that the site I just linked you to has an excellent reference tool: The Encyclopedia of Marxism (http://www.marxists.org/glossary/frame.htm).
Enjoy!

Do you mean he is a capitalist as in that he owns and managers a type of buisness, or he just supports capitalism.

My dad was pissing me off saying Kery would be good - and that Iraq would be a mess if the US left.
So I got him out The Clash Of Fundamentals by Tariq Ali from the library - he agreed to read it too :)
I don't bother having political conversations with my parents that much - sometimes they say it is great I am intrested in what is going on and care and other times they tell me communism is bad and will never work.
Keep reading and learning and get into the different things that are going on in the anti capitalist/anti globalization movement. dont bother with capitalism is bad.. communism good because... cause ppl just go on about mao and stalin and talk about communist oppression and atrocities.. to defend capitalism
and not look at the fact that people need to organize together to better things and that things are a lot more complicated than old simple cold war arguements. learn your history and keep at it dont let ya dad bother you man.
Also find out if he had ever been into anti war marches when he was younger and why he thinks the way he does today - show him bits of books and so on showing about what people have done ... end apartheid, get woman the vote, get better working conditions through unions and strikes.... gain independance from colonialism... etc there is much that has been done. The labour movement .. has done a lot. also point out that not all communists followed the USSR or China.
www.chumba.com is the site of a band that has some good stuff (from a more anarchist perspective) http://www.chumba.com/_faquestions2.htm is the questions and answers section have a squiz at them.
http://www.newleftreview.net has some good articles from a leftist persepctive on what is going on in the world - the links page has a lot of great stuff on it.
Happy reading - and dont forget to love ure dad no matter what the difference in opinions is. :D
