Now, that is a "full-size" question!

The "left" have been typically called and subscribed to, by parties and for that matter, individual's -- who support a egalitarian transformation of society -- claiming "to speak" for the people, or rather the dispossessed and impecunious among society -- and that would be, of course, the vast majority.

The term, I believe, was deprived from seating arrangements in the French revolutionary assemblies.

But there are some older connotations of "left-sidedness"; emphasizing irregular, unstructured, suspicious, non-interventionist or socially "dangerous" attitudes and behaviors.

The "left" are to be feared!

Which particular part of the left, as I am aware leftists have always existed. At least leftists as we understand it.

In my view the leftists of the 19th century are the most interesting.
