Rise Against and Against Me! played at a yearly festival we have in Seattle this weekend and I got a new camera, so I wanted to try posting some pics on here. The show was cool except for the fact that alot of people got booted for no reason. There were "No Moshing" signs everyhwere. Apparently "moshing" means dancing of any sort. Rise Against refused to play the last song or leave the stage until all the kids were let back in, after about 30 mintues of fighting the promoters gave in. I don't think Rise Against will be asked back next year !

that looks like loads of fun... i like small venues better than big ones anyway. i love how everyone just moshes and crowdsurfs anyway in spite of the signs. so punk. and tim mcilrath is just awesome anyway. i think all of rise against are vegetarians too. i've seen them twice this year.

That's awesome of Rise Against but what about Against Me?? Surely they're anarchist (when they're not supporting fuckin Punkvoter that is)...
Moreover, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN "PUNK" GOES MAINSTREAM. Big venues with rent a cop security thugs and bullshit rules and negative vibes. Like, dude, how punk. Keep it underground kids.

Nobody got kicked out during Against Me. They played a few hours after Rise Against, maybe they had a talk with security.

They played for free because they were going to be in town. Small bands play BUmbershoot all the time, this is the first year it was inside and also the first time there was a security presence. Plus, they played a show for 5 bucks at the smallest club in town and played a free show the next night.
I'm still waiting for you to make a post without the message of "keep it underground". I wub you.

I saw Against Me! 2 nights ago in Sydney (at the Annandale), it was pretty awesome as the annandale is a smallish venue and there weren't that many there, got a chance to talk to all the band when they came out during the supports.
http://home.iprimus.com.au/muppetonice/tomavatar.jpg my mate took this pic, he got to go out drinking with the band last night because it was an 18+ show

We have terrible laws here, mostly bands play pubs or venues with a license to sell alcohol, and laws say under 18 year olds can't go into licensed premises without their parents or guardian. I don't quite unerstand it, but its painfully annoying when bands only play an 18+ show and you have to figure a way to get in which usually fails.

If you had any idea what the laws and situation were like in Seattle you'd shut your fucking mouth right now. It isn't always possible to play all ages shows, and it has nothing to do with the band. AM played a show in a basement at a kid's house in Seattle before their show awhile back because they couldn't get in to play an all ages show that time around.
You've gotta love how hard GR tries to find something wrong with every band that he isn't particularly into.

Don't you just hate laws? I think they do them on purpose, to stop groups of kids getting together where they may be "exposed" to "dangerous" ideas. They've got it all sorted! *takes off conspricy theory hat*

What a fucking ridiculous thing to say. Tell me please, how is going out and making a living for your art (in a capitalist spciety) being a sell out ? They have compromised none of their ideals, they one of the few examples of a respectable, fairly well known punk band.
Seriously, explain yourself. Then, when you do, slap yourself for saying "owns" in that context.

Of course I'm gonna take issue with security guards, anti-moshing "rules", 18+ shows. If you don't then you're about as punk as some twat with glue in his hair passed out in the street outside a (Clearchannel) Rancid show. Which, for your information, is not very punk at all. Fuck it man, surely this shit is pretty obvious.

C'mon, get it all out, I know you want to. What exactly do you find such a big deal about it again ?
I'll defend the bands I know to be good people from personal experience. If you're going to shit talk a group of people who I know to be sincere in what they do and also happen to be one of my favorite bands, I'd like to know why.
I love arguing this topic with you, it gets me all hot and bothered. Wub you

To be honest brah, the personalities in Against Me really have very little to nothing to do with it. That they're all nice guys who give to the homeless or whatever doesn't really come into it. The fact is, the fuckers are supposedly anarchist, and yet are hanging out with their buddy Fat Mike doing Punkvoter. I'm sure I don't need to point out the contradiction there.

So because they strayed from what Bakunin said and got involved in bourgeoise politics that then means that they aren't Anarchists ? I had no idea you were that dogmatic. Listen, I disagree with them on this too, I just don't think it's that big of a deal and it definitely doesn't mean they are any less "Anarchist".

Not about Bakunin. It's simply about fucked up politics and a horrific lurch towards reformist, liberalist bullshit. You know why it's wrong, I don't gotta tell you that. Why isn't it anarchist?? Well surely even the dumbest **** knows that anarchists aren't really about reforming a system that they believe to be inherently wrong. It's that simple.

I went to the Rock against Bush Tour, featuring Anti-Flag last week. It was a pretty good time, however I thought that it was dumb because it was an 18+ show, where alcohol is served and the place was crawling with security gaurds, who attempting tostop people from moshing and crowd surfing.
mentalbunny
8th October 2004, 21:19
Stop people from moshing? That's fucked up. I can vaguely understand crowd surfing (maybe I've just been conditioned) but not being allowed to mosh is like stopping people from singing along or something!

i went to rock against bush this wednesday in DC. nation is an awesome venue. the guards were all gentle with the crowdsurfers and eased them down gently and didn't harass anyone who was moshing. and they weren't big burly bald guys with no neck either. chill folks. we saw mike park, 2 shitty bands (the AKAs and midtown), and strike anywhere, and left before anti-flag because they're sub-par...

It's one thing to make money for making music. It's another thing to sign with a major label then release an album full of crap.
RATM was signed with Epic (Sony), but they, unlike Rise Against, made GOOD MUSIC afterward. That's the difference.
As to the "punk voter" thing - I totally agree that it's garb and AM! shouldn't have taken part in it.
But that doesn't make them "sellouts", just "horridly mistaken". Their music is still butt-kickin' and anarchistic.
(Oh, btw, Rise Against (http://www.riseagainst.com/default.asp) is part of PunkVoter too).
Rise Against is signed with Dreamworks Records.

18+ shows are great when you can get into them as you can buy alcohol no problems.
Last saturday I saw a bunch of bands at a hotel in the city at an 18+ show, I got drunk (what's hot). John Howard won the fucking election during the show (what's not).

Saw Against Me! again last night. They opened for the Blood Brothers.
Word to the wise: True North is the shittiest band of all time. Literally. I had to fucking leave the bar and go outside, it was that bad.
Against Me only played for about a half hour, maybe 45 minutes. Though the drummer did buy my ex/girlfriend a beer and try to hit on her. That was funny. At least she turned him down.

Wow. Can I shake your hand? I would LOVE it if the drummer from Againts Me! (or any member of the band) were to hit on my ex/gf. Wow.
