"Lenin was an apostle of world peace whose ideas have had a profound influence on the course of contemporary history. ... [and] his ideals ... are in line with the U. N. charter."
--U. N. Secretary General U Thant in a speech given in 1970

I got it of a right wing website trying to attack democrats (or lefties as they call them) with this quote as evidence. What do you guys think of the comment? (if anyone can confirm its authenticity that would be great)

Even if it is a real quote, it's completely erroneous.

If someone was to claim that Lenin's ideals were in line with the UN charter, they'd have to actually have some evidence, or at least some explanation, to support their argument.

Conveniently, there's none here at all.

Quite frankly, the quote is junk.

There are many aspects of the Declaration that Lenin espoused however I doubt he was real keen on the right to own land and property and not have it's ownership taken from you.

Lenin's policies and ideals ARE in line with the U.N. charter, this becuase Lenin was one of the first to defend peace amongst all nations, since when is it erroneous to state that?

what fucking evidence? what motherfucking explanation? Don't you know history? aren't you conscient of Lenin's work?

learn your history instead of asking for evidences....

i don't know how i could back all the quotes aspects up? however I like it and would consider it to be fairly authentic or an acceptable vision.

Lenin will forever go down in history with a good name, at least with me anyway!

I was going to say what nakba said.

Lenin's view for internationalist peace is exactly in line with the UN's desire for peace. I'm sure the guy giving the quote wasn't referring to any form of economic policy which in any way is directed for peace. It makes no mention of any type of policy other than that for world peace, and Lenin's ideal is definately in line with the UN's on that.

Thus, the quote is neither "erroneous" or "junk".

Thankfully, having studied the UN during my degree course, I can give you the "evidence" you so eagerly desire, monkeydust.

The UN Charter states that it wishes to:
"...save succeeding generations from the scourge of war",
"...reaffirm faith in the …dignity and worth of the human person [and] in the equal rights of men and women",
"..promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom…".

Of course, it states many more ideas which are in-line with Lenin's view for world peace, but stating all of those would be silly. I think these 3 examples from the Charter will mean you must agree that the UN's view for world peace is in line with Lenin's.

I think you must have got confused and started thinking about economic polices etc. when making your post. Remember this guy making the quote was solely talking about the view for world peace.

I also suggest you include some evidence to argue your point in your post before criticising others about it.
