URGENT CALL TO ACTION: ORGANIZE A VIGIL ON THURSDAY NIGHT FOR THE MORE THAN 1,000 U.S. SOLDIERS AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF IRAQIS KILLED

More than one thousand young Americans have died in Iraq, almost seven thousand are maimed, and tens of thousands of Iraqis have died. The President won't mourn our dead, but we will.

Please join United for Peace and Justice, in coordination with Win Without War, and dozens of other groups, including Military Families Speak Out and Veterans For Peace, to say: Enough to Endless War and Suffering, Bring Them Home NOW!

TAKE ACTION: ORGANIZE A PEACE VIGIL THIS THURSDAY, SEPT. 9, 2004

Please help us organize peace vigils on Thursday night, to mourn for all the people who've been killed in Iraq, call for an end to the occupation, and demand accountability for the lies that got us into the war! We know this is extremely short notice, but it is urgent that we stand together publicly to mark this grim milestone.

We will remember the more than 1,000 US servicemen and women who have died in Iraq. We will remember the many thousands of Iraqis--civilians and combatants, men and women, children the elderly--who have been killed. And we will remember that these deaths did not have to happen.

We know that the current administration has plunged us into this unjust and unjustifiable war, driven by greed for oil and lust for power and fueled by lie after lie. We cannot remain silent!

We demand an end to the occupation so the Iraqi people can determine their own destiny free from foreign interference and control.

We want our troops brought home NOW. Don't ask these men and women to continue to die for politicians' mistakes and lies. And we want them treated right when they return. Give them the benefits there were promised and give them the help they will need to heal their bodies, their minds and their spirits.

We will remember, honor and mourn. We will not forget!

We suggest you hold the Sept. 9 vigil at your local Congressional representatives' offices or at the federal building in your town.

Post your event at http://www.unitedforpeace.org so the media and the world will know about your participation.

We also encourage you to support and participate in the National Memorial Procession, a trail of mourning and truth from Iraq to the White House, which will begin on October 2 at Arlington National Cemetery. For more information, see http://www.peacepledge.org/resist/10-2-2004.htm

Why should anyone go and pay tribute to imperial soldiers?

More than one thousand young Americans have died in Iraq, almost seven thousand are maimed,

They were doing their god damn job. What do you expect? Their job was to go to a country to dominate it for their bosses and they did it with enthusiasm and eagerness. They died because they invaded a country that didn't belong to them. Why should we show them any sympothy?

because they are part of the working class. True, they are the tools of imperialism: but they are just trying to feed themselves.

We can't all be as enlightened and pure as you.

Surely you are a supporter of imperialism anyway, because you don't overthrow imperialist countries. You know the - "either with us or you are against us" - argument. The whole Edmund Burke philosophy (evil flourishes when good people do nothing).

Or maybe i'm talking bollocks.
Like you.

But that doesn't answer why people should pay tribute to them? There are many Nazi's who are working class who are killed trying to murder black and gay people. Should I pay tribute to them also? And yes they are comparable.

True, they are the tools of imperialism: but they are just trying to feed themselves.

By becoming a professional killer? There are others jobs which allow people to feed themselves. These particular people decided to take this particular job. A job which trains you how to kill people, innocent people usually, for the purpose of maintaining imperialist control.

We can't all be as enlightened and pure as you.

Is this the extent of your argument? Bringing into question my commitment to anti-imperialism? What would have me say now? You really want me to go into why I personally am not overthrowing an imperialist country or would you like me to real off my commitments or future commitments to fighting imperialism? Either pay more attention to what people say or find a new line. This one is wearing thin.

surely they are simply workers in uniform?
its not like the generals are dying or anythin.

This vigil is a great place to do political work, show how pointless the war was, explain why these soldiers would have been put to better use in other proffessions such as hospitals, or just in BUILDIN hospitals.

Its a great place to agitate and win people to socialism. If you cant see that then your an ultra-left. Then again, it wouldnt be the first time an anarchist has been told that.

the demonstrations werent just for the soilders, i copyed that from United for Peace and Justice, really big group. Now if it was me, i would look at it for the 10,000 iraqis killed and to get the troops out and end occupation

thats how i saw it as

sorry for not making that point earlier, obiosly i know most of us feel that the troops are doing a lot of dirty work, and i too feel that way.
