well russia was the place for the first socialist revolution and is always associated with communism - whats happening there now? besides the chechnya troubles and the that there leader is Putin - what do we know?

is socialism having a comeback in russia? or is capitalism in firm footing and what about the rise of fascism? talk about russia in this thread.

here is something i sound while board on the internet:
http://www.northstarcompass.org/nsc0212/anticapit.htm

'The young generation of "children of perestroika" is now beginning to understand, that the high standard of living and money of the upper class parasites is closed to them. They are looking for answers.

What is the answer of the government?

Be patient and obedient, work, maybe you will succeed. The principal of the colonial Roman Empire; "Divide and rule" is constantly being used against the people. "All your troubles are caused by "churki" and "Zhydy"! "Hit them, pummel them!" Yes, not far behind in this campaign are representatives from the "south" blaming the "north" in the anti-social criticism. Our cities are full of narcotics. They are not allowed to behave like this in their own countries.

But, is a Russian capitalist bourgeois better? Are not the Russian civil servants in high positions who look very placidly at the dismemberment of Russia any better?

What is important is what kind of person you are, not what kind of nationality you are.

What do we propose?

Last September 14-15 the "Vanguard of Red Youth" (AKM) together with many other left organizations of Russia, Ukraine and Byelorussia organized a Youth March of the left forces.

In this Youth March there took part practically all left wing youth organizations of these three republics: AKM, National Bolshevik Party, Union of Red Youth, Russian Communist Union of Young Bolshevik Youth (RKSM(b)), Russian Workers Party, Russian Party of Communists, Young Guard of Union of Officers, All Union Youth Guard of Bolsheviks.

More and more young people are coming under the banners of different communist, patriotic, anarchistic organizations in the struggle against capitalism. The Putin regime has rotted away so much, that against him are now demonstrating even many religious and right-wing organizations, as an example: the Socialist Union. Against the capitalization of former USSR there is taking part in demonstrations the Orthodox State Party of Ukraine. Both of these organizations also took part in the Youth March......'

ps the site nothern star is:
Dedicated to the Re-Establishment of the Soviet Union as a Socialist State
Northstar Compass is a monthly magazine containing the latest news and views of the struggles of the Soviet peoples against Putin's capitalist regime and its imperialist backers. It includes English translations from communist and progressive newspapers in the former Soviet Union. These news items are not printed in the capitalist media.

That's good to hear that there are still socialist and leftist elements left in Russia.

As far as the National Bolshevik Party goes, the name is an oxymoron and the party is really a neo-Nazi front. This page has some info on the fascist scum. http://flagspot.net/flags/ru%7Dnaz.html#nbp

You've always got to be careful when reading about modern Russian communists, as the right-wing media always fail to distinguish between communists and the national bolsheviks, which I rekon is probably a deliberate plicy to give us a bad name. I hate the national Bolsheviks as they seem to be doing a lot of communist stuff by aranging demonstrations, but because of their views the press give us a bad name.

Nazi fucks should be taken out immediately. I can't believe that they are using the hammer and sickle as a part of their sick, twisted and distorted views.

The flag is based on the nazi scheme (red, a centered white disk with a black symbol); instead of the swastika there is the sickle-and-hammer device. This flag impressed me because of the merging of two well known and opposite symbols; it is a vexillological oxymoron.
How cool is that phrase?

It is an interesting phenomenon that in Russia "leftism" is usually associated with extreme right wing nationalism.

It is however explainable if you consider that under "socialism" Russia was a "superpower", feared and respected in the world.

Now, it's a neo-third world nation with a decrepit army and a oligarchy so corrupt it makes the Saudi royal family look scrupulous.

I totally agree with YouKnowTheyMurderedX. Extreme (OverTheTop) Nationalism is the only reason why nazis are using hammer and sickle. But the tricks with the flags are well known, for example, on the same site I found an american party called "Libertarian National Socialist Green Party". Now, how would you explain that? Three in one party?

In Russia, Capitalism has a firm base in the urban areas, especially Moscow. Most communists are either from St.Peterburg or from the rural areas. But in general, in Russia communism=nationalism. The people who want Russia to be back in the list of 'Great Powers' sooner or later become either communists or fascists. Others, who only care about their own profit, either go to urban areas or to western countries and live a happy life there.

Though, it seems to me that Putin tries to turn capitalism into state capitalism as he more and more centralizes political power as well as control of factories and RGOs.

Yeah, recently i downloaded the 'cold war' mod for game called Hearts of Iron. They called USSR: "the empire of evil". I deleted the mod immidiately. Probably gonna make my own mod, where USA will be "the empire of evil"

It's also explainable in that Stalinism was essentially authoritarianism, feudalism and nationalism. Communism in Russia/USSR has been synonymous with nationalism since Stalin abandoned the ideology. (Rather than the state withering away he strengthened it and turned to nationalism over internationalism - both at odds with Marx and Lenin.)
