Yo everybody, hows it going? I just joined this site because I want to know more about socialism. I'm a junior in highschool, and for the last four or five years I've found myself on a very different level than all the kids at school, indeed, from most people in this society.
I live in America in this republican town in Colorado where around every corner there's a walmart and a church. Capitalism is hand in hand with exploitation, and what we gain in profits is at the cost of "third-world" countries who have less because they aren't raping the environment and their own species, as well as every other species available for torment.
I would very much like to escape from America, and live on a commune or a more liberal society where people understand how to live together.
One of the things characterizing the US is the ascension of ego. Children are taught to idolize themselves and zone out on the brainwashing television, where they seemingly learn to view their own lives as a sitcom, and realize that their world is all there is-- nevermind the people starving because of your luxuries. Nevermind those civilians we're bombing for our capitalistic lust for oil and big bucks....
After reading "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, I became very interested in learning more about socialism. I must admit I'm somewhat naive on the subject, though I'm sure taking part in some philosophizing on this board is a step in the right direction. I've been reading some things by Che Guevara, and I'm very impressed.
Although the average view of communism is as some form of dictatorship, I'm looking past the narrow scopes of Americans to try to establish some truth of what actually occurred and where the revolution stands today. Ignorance is a well-bred disease, and I'd rather not be a part of it.
So here I am. I look forward to sharing some views with you, much respect.
