I've heard political pundits, and politicians in the United States bring up Healthcare a lot recently.
I was wondering what other countries have nationalized health care?
and
Do Americans want socialized healthcare, and if so could U.S. politicians ever deliver it?

Well in the UK we have the National Health Service which is a free, state run health service, but at the moment 'Labour' are in the process of turning it into a semi-privatised two-tier system, and the Tories have admited that "within 5 years of us gaining power, the NHS will cease to exist," so I doubt it will last much longer :(
Obviously Cuba has a national health service too, and Fidel Castro is the only world leader to be given an award by the World Health Organisation for his work on this.
Many of the other ex-'Communist' countries such as Russia still have a national health infrastructure, but Putin is in the middle of dismantling his.

Do Americans want socialized healthcare, and if so could U.S. politicians ever deliver it?
I can't answer for the Americans, but with the current system, it will never be 'delivered.'

I've only just moved to scotland, and have noticed that they constantly play NHS Scotland adverts on TV. They are great! Has anyone else seen them? Its this poor little cute girl who goes to a party, and gets wasted. On another occasion she gets high and scared. Poor girl. Very effective too.

Back on topic... if you are interested in good welfare systems, i suggest you read up on Denmark, which (i think) has a very good child care system. They have put an awful lot of money into it. Also, the Dutch have a good system (compared to others). The rapid increase of their average height has been partly put down to their excellent welfare system.

WTF?!? Why? I never knew there was a link.

They used to have a really small (compared to UK and US) average height.

I'm 5'7 ish (and am 18, so thats probably it). Which, in case you want to know, was the average british height 200 years ago. As you can see, i'm lagging behind a bit. :(

Hey I read the Mail - it pays to know what shit your enemies are telling the people. You can't fight a propaganda war against someone without knowing what propaganda your enemy is churning out.

Erm.. NO. I have said many many many times that my family get the paper. Do you really think that i'd buy it? lol

No, i use the guardian online (simply because it is the best online paper), and the private eye.

And what reactionary views anyway? [please will everyone now watch how kez won't reply]

Australia has a national health system (that doesn't cover dentists but!?) that the Howard government has been trying to get rid of and promote private health care instead. I of course support public health care and I hate Howard.

In the USA I think the last few Prezs have tried to set up a similar system, but can't 'cause the system won't let them. The public want it, the politicians want it, but the constitution doesn't allow it.

We don't have free dental or optical care free either. I think its because when it was introduced so many people misused it the government couldn't afford to keep it.

I bet they don't. I rekon they know that the people want it, but as the constitution doesn't let them do it, they can claim to be trying to increase their popularity, but really they aren't doing anything at all.

Most third world countries have very precarious, but nevertheless public healthcare.

most of the CIS countries do, governments are too scared to take it away, even if it is very shite and very corrupt, its the principle, ie the gain of the workers which the workers dont wanna give back.

I assume it's pretty much the same with Latin America.
They tend to have a much more progressive mind set in comparison to Americans and probably a bit more than Europeans. And nobody's planing on taking away their public healthcare.

But you are right. It's very currupt indeed.

In Alberta Canada the right wing prmeir has taken coverage away from several areas every few years. Now you must pay for bandages, casts, ambulance rides etc..
All 11 other premeirs just got together to begin discussing the framework for a national Pharmaceutacal program.

the american people want socialized medicine, the american buisnessman is agianst it, as well as the many foreign doctors that immigrate here in order to pull on the g'$( selfish bastards). it would probly be 1 of the greates things for medical care all over seeing that it might possibly halt third world doctors from immigrating here to make more money and have them concentrate on their own countries who damn well need them more. its a pretty inevitable fact that america will have a nationalized health care policy in the next few years in my opinion.

Kez. Along time has past now, since our last discussion on this topic. Yes, i think they should pull out now. They have had long enough to repair bridges etc. Also, the last thing i wanted to see was another iran - the troops presence is increasing this possiblity each day.

I have mixed feelings about the aid agency people (and their protection) though... luckily alot of the "militants" don't target them, but sadly not all have this sense of decency.

This has become another afghanistan, whether i like it or not.

Yep, we do.

Its great, but sucks at the same time. If you have a pain somewhere or want to get something checked out you have to go to your doctor, then they refer you to someone else, and then you have to wait a few months before you actually get checked. Even to go to the gyno you have to make appointments months in advanced.

But at least you know that if you need medicine you are going to get it- either real cheap or free.

its not much different than the states then, as far as the referral business that is. Gracias SeņoraChe :)
