Why is the republican emblem what looks like an elephant with the stars and stripes, and why is the democrat emblem a mule, or donkey?
Just a question outta curiosity.

The Republican's adopted their "emblem", I think, from an inaugaration parade featuring elephants. I can't remember the President.
The Democrats got theirs from a political cartoon by Thomas Nast (I think). How they adopted it, I don't know, but it was drawn from the cartoon.

GOP stands for "Grand Old Party," a synonym for the Republican Party. I'm not sure where the term comes from though.
