Is to nationalize the means of production the same as nationalizing the industries just the industries that provide for the population? I don't really know what it means.

Why should we nationalize the means of productions?
Very well, means of production are machines and other stuff you produce things with. So if you gonna nationalize the means of production, then you will nationalize the industries, but nationalizing the industries is not exactly the same thing as nationalizing the means of production.

In Marxist usage, the "means of production" means the actually available technology that's used to make things...you'll sometimes run across the phrase "modes of production" -- means the same thing.
So when it is said that the capitalist class will be deprived of "the means of production", it simply means that they will no longer be permitted to own the technology that humans use to make what they need.
