Perhaps it's because most of us come from those two countries, so naturally, what goes on is more likely to affect us personally. If that's what you mean.

This is sometimes used in a lazy fashion, to describe the germanic "race", which includes some people in the UK, and thus USA.

The French are descended from the Franks another germanic people who moved into central europe a few hundred years after the Angles and Saxons settled in England.
It's difficult to find areas that are not predominantly of Germanic descent.

Celts and Gauls aren't German; they're Celts. The word German is, ironically enuf, a Celtic word. So is the word "teutonic" - another word for the Germans.

I think what you mean is, they're all indo-european which is a large group.

That's trippy, I always thought that the German tribes which invaded Enland or Anglia were called Saxons. When future generations started their own tribes, they were known as "anglo saxons" being "saxons" from "anglia".

I believe that Anglia was named after the Angles who were from southern Danmark, the Saxons were from Saxony in northern Germany.
