the desperate attempt to recapture the greatness of garage rock of old. though i do enjoy they're music, they are nothing special. Just the same as the vines, strokes, white stripes, they just hoped on the bandwagon late

God, look at the "cool" guys proving how "hip" they are by making fun of a "totally lame" band like Jet. You guys are so cool and underground.

Jet is plain rock and roll. I don't really like them, but I'll buck the trend and resist the urge to make a "witty" comment.

"Pop" is not a genre of music, unless you choose to categorize things like Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys like that.

They wear designer boots, have hairdresser haircuts and put deliberate rips in their clothes to look 'cool' as opposed to actually letting your clothes get ripped naturally. They also put shit on way better bands like The Kings of Leon. Jet are way more pop than "plain rock and roll". Jet suck arse and I'd rather to listen to the good music listen to the good music from 30 years ago that they are pathetically imitating in a lame and unoriginal way.

It was in a copy of Black & White (the australian version) they had a little thing on Jet and how they were touring with the Kings of Leon and a couple of the guys fom Jet (Nick and Chris Cester) were both wearing these brand fucking new leather cowboy boots; they were not props or costume either the band was shot in their hotel room. By the way I answered your question and gave my opinion. I'd far rather listen to the Stones than Jet. Besides Jet took their name from a shit song by Wings that says it all.

You obviously like this group, otherwise you wouldn't be singly approving the only post that hasn't made a derogatory comment against Jet. And I also said what genre they belong to.

"Pop" is not a genre of music, unless you choose to categorize things like Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys like that.

I said they're pop, as opposed to being indy. So it makes a difference. And they're mainstream, as opposed to being punk, progressive, new-wave, blues-rock, alternative, grunge, hardcore, etc.

Judging from the pic in your profile, you have NO right to talk shit about a band for caring too much about hair. You look like you stepped out of a Nirvana record. Nice bleach job cutie.

Look, I'm not saying that I like Jet or that I condone them playing dress up. What pisses me off is when people like yourself talk shit about other people's interests with the sole purpose of showing how fucking hip you are. There is no need to trash them, and by proxy the person who likes them. You can either give an answer, or if you must you can say why you don't like them in a way that doesn't make you sound like a dick. Fuck, I'm sure I hate this band just as much as you.

I'd far rather listen to the Stones than Jet

Good Lord. You're making fun of Jet for being too image concious, and you listen to the fucking "Stones" ? The kings of image whoring ? Mick Jagger was the most flamboyant, fashionable, trendy and FAKE frontman out of any band of all time. Before you were being rude, now you're being a straight up hypocrite.

That chicken walk that Jagger does it infinitely worse than anything Jet could ever do.

I said they're pop, as opposed to being indy. So it makes a difference.

O.K, you're right on that part, I hadn't realize he included indy in there, so yes, they aren't indy.

And they're mainstream, as opposed to being punk, progressive, new-wave, blues-rock, alternative, grunge, hardcore, etc.

I don't think mainstream is necessarilly opposed to the genre's you listed. There have been a ton of mainstream punk, new wave, blues, alternative, grunge and hardcore bands. Actually, in the case of New Wave, Alternative and Grunge, the vast majority were mainstream.

But I was just saying that they're only plain rock, not some sub-genre. You know what I meant. At least now you do. =D

I haven't payed for a haircut in over a year they're done by my friends, the last haircut I had before this was a shaven head (just ask Cthenthar) My hair isn't bleached it's at its natural colour. All of my clothes are bought second hand, I am far from trying to look trendy so shut the fuck up. My hair naturally grown in this way it has onlt been cut at the bottom of my hairlin so once it's long again I can tie it back and forget about it. Why thank you about the Nirvana comment.

What pisses me off is when people like yourself talk shit about other people's interests with the sole purpose of showing how fucking hip you are. There is no need to trash them, and by proxy the person who likes them.

Okay now where did I trash commie boy? It's not about how hip I am, you don't get it, it's about how fake Jet are, I don't care whether they want to wear the shit they do, but I do care that they are walking contradictions and are the opposite of what they claim. I' am a big supporter of honesty.

You can either give an answer, or if you must you can say why you don't like them in a way that doesn't make you sound like a dick.

I gave an answer I said Faux Rock-Revivalist, which is what they are. Then I gave my opinion in a very succint manner by saying "Shit." I didn't mean to sound "like a dick" and I don't think you do either but your doing it now.

Fuck, I'm sure I hate this band just as much as you.

Then shut up. I doubt it however, you've taken this away from the band and made it about me and you've attacked me without warrant. Is this personal?

Good Lord. You're making fun of Jet for being too image concious, and you listen to the fucking "Stones" ? The kings of image whoring ?

The stones were a truthful example of the kind of music Jet are trying to imitate. When did I say the stones were anything other than image whores? At least they didn't deny it don't you think?

Mick Jagger was the most flamboyant, fashionable, trendy and FAKE frontman out of any band of all time.

yes, yes, yes, no you can't seriously call Jagger fake. Deliberate would be a better word.

Before you were being rude, now you're being a straight up hypocrite.

No I'm not, however you are being rude AND vindictive with no apparent reason.

That chicken walk that Jagger does it infinitely worse than anything Jet could ever do.

Jet are just rock, you people and your fucking genres. Save it for discussion in your local NME sponsored music showcase.

Anyway anybody feel Jet sound scarily like AC/DC? I mean the actual riffs arent too far off a few AC/DC songs, not that I'm complaining, more, more, more I say.

commieboy
1st September 2004, 22:41
i noticed that too, but apparently AC/DC were one of their largest influences.

I'm sorry about the genre shit, but i was just curious what you would catagorize them as.

Dr. Rosenpenis
1st September 2004, 22:58
Definitely some AC/DC influences.
As well as some Stones influences.

All their songs are vaguely similar, and Are You Gonna be my Girl is a blatant rip off of Lust for Life by Iggy Pop. I also hear some Bachman Turner Overdrive influences in there.

"Cold Hard *****" sounds a lot like AC/DC. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" reminds me of Zeppelin's "Black dog" for some reason.

They are good if you ask me, probably one of the best mainstream bands nowadays. They could be classified as "modern pop hard rock" or something.

Well, it wasn't that big of a deal until he started pimping the Stones, that was when I got actually annoyed. The Stones are guilty of every single thing that he said Jet was guilty of, only 30 years earlier.

I really don't care that much though, I don't know why this has turned into such a big thing. I just think the kid is being a total hypocrite, and I tend to deal with blatant hypocrisy harshly.

Could what be due to the fact that I scanned my face? The blonde? No I just have light hair. The light is uneven so the areas furtherback are plunged into darkness and the background hair looks darker perhaps giving the illusion of dyeing but I think it looks totally normal. If you like Jet you'll also like their support act Neon.

The tame or domestic ass is patient, slow, and sure-footed, and has become the type of obstinacy and stupidity. There are several species of wild asses which are swift-footed.

Ass (as meaning the buttocks) is infact an American term. The English language originates from England, and they say 'arse', and hence Australia has gotten the word from there. America comes up with alot of strange words for things.

I actually kind of like Jet, and I'm usually pretty hard on new mainstream music. I don't look at pictures of Jet nor watch MTV nor would I pay to see them in concert, so it doesn't matter that much thay they rip their pants to be cool or are fashion hores. It will, though, be interesting to see if they can make another decent album after they've gone mainstream. I really doubt it.
