Revolutions aren't picnics. Of course he killed people. He even executed people if I recall correctly (calling it "revolutionary justice")

but for the heck of it?
or just if he was ordered to

He certainly did not kill for the 'heck of it'. He was a revolutionary, not a sadomasochist. The worst thing I see that he did was executions. Not entirely sure if they were under 'orders' as such though.

He did execute people: he had no mercy for traitors. But read his Bolivian diary! He was everything but sadistic! When they captured Bolivian soldiers, though many from Che's group wanted to kill them, Che decided to just undress and unarm them. When his guerilleros started to get disorganized and lazy, he couldn't even punish them well because he was so afraid of offending them!

I could say that not only he was not a sadist, he was so weak that it made him (at least in Bolivia) an inadequate guerilla leader.

He killed those that would have killed him.

He was known to be very hard on himself, and eventually also on his men. But killing people for fun? Dont think so...

he only killed people when he "had" to ("had" - seen from his side - the side of the guerilla)
he was always very social (of course) but also hard to his people (like he was to himself althoug he was ill and week) because he though everyone is as strong (in the mind) like himself

Che would have never went around killing people for the heck of it. Being the revolutionary he was, he only killed out of self-defense.
