Hey guys, I just want to say this is a really awesome community and it seems like everyone's very friendly. With that said, I need some help. I'd love to become an anarchist and I've been doing some reading. However, before I officially call myself an anarchist I need some questions answered.
In an anarchist society:
1.How does city maintenance take place--waste management and city repairs (specifically interstate highways)?
2.How does the police and judicial system work? I mean someone has to enforce laws and someone has to find criminals guilty.
3.Public education?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Welcome :)
1.How does city maintenance take place--waste management and city repairs (specifically interstate highways)?
I don't think there is a 'fixed' answer.
One possibility is that when we try to implement anarchism, everyone has to do, in example, 3 hours of dirty jobs a week, like cleaning the sewers etc.
Another (the one that in my opinion is closest related to anarchism) is that it is that it is volentary, and people would do it because they to a certain extent like the job, and doing work like that will give them prestige etc.
2.How does the police and judicial system work? I mean someone has to enforce laws and someone has to find criminals guilty.
Most people that are "criminals" are drug user. To imprison people do not help, it makes things worse. There will be no punishment for using drugs or similar things.
Most crimes are caused by the capitalist system, and most of these would also exist even in a socialist society, so it is not just based on exploitation of the proletariat. However, when you implement a more humane system (socialism, communism etc.) crime goes down.
However, we must recognize the fact that, although criminality will be very limited, it would most likely still exist. I think TAT or others has to answer this. However, in my opinion, I think laws would be very simple, not like today where you can be punished, or even executed by laws you did not even know existed. It would be very simple. I think the main, if not the only rule would be that unprovocated violence or harrasment would be illegal.
3.Public education?
Because it is your life, I think that it is your choice on what you are going to learn. People who work with something they like work much more effective. IMO you wouldn't have to know all the geographical areas in the world if that does not interest you. If you would only want to learn mathematics, or perhaps philosophy or history, that is your choice.
