Just thought I'd share this article with anyone thats interested. It's obviously very important to me and my family, but I'm sure some of you guys are interested. If you don't already know about Archbishop Romero, its something everyone should know about because of U$'s heavy involvement...

A federal judge in Fresno [Ca.] began hearing evidence Tuesday on whether a Modesto man helped arrange the 1980 assassination of Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador, a defining moment in Central America's tumultuous history... The lawsuit claims Saravia... was a Salvadoran military captain and a close aide to reputed death-squad leader Roberto D'Aubuisson. It claims Saravia obtained weapons, vehicles and other materials for the crime; ordered his personal driver to take the assassin to and from the chapel where Romero was shot; and paid the assassin after the slaying...

Thanks for the article, I'm glad there's at least someone else on here that follows what's going on in Central America, I take it you are Salvadorian. Having spent a little time in Guatemala, I try and keep up with the effort to bring Rios Mont to trial, but its always nice to read up on what's going on in the rest of Central America, as well, being that US news coverage of the happenings there really is non existent.

No problem :) My heart goes out to your friends who lost their brother during the war, I know it's especially hard to go back because of that, since I lost some family myself who were very politically active as well. I recommend a visit to the capilla on the UCA campus, where the jesuit priests were killed and they have a memorial dedicated to the priests, mary knoll nuns, and romero. It's very moving, plus the campus is gorgeous and their book store is really awesome. I hope you have fun, and don't forget to go to the beach! :D

An update...if anyone's interested...

A federal judge in Fresno ruled Friday that a former Salvadoran air force captain is liable for $10 million in compensatory and punitive damages for his involvement in the assassination almost a quarter century ago of El Salvador's Roman Catholic archbishop, Oscar Arnulfo Romero... an internationally renowned advocate for peace and human rights, who was gunned down in broad daylight while saying Mass at a San Salvador hospital chapel.
...After the case concluded, San Francisco State University Professor Felix Kury, who is Salvadoran, made reference to the estimated $6 billion in U.S. support for the Salvadoran government during the war.
"The elephant in the room -- that we could not talk about because we wanted to find this man responsible -- is the role of the United States," he said. "The war would not have happened without it."
