TARGETING CASTRO

U.S. military aircraft transmit Radio and TV Martí to Cuba

Cuban-American lawmakers cheered Saturday as U.S. military aircraft transmitted Radio and TV Martí to Cuban audiences -- one of the Bush administration's new tactics to undermine the Castro regime.

''For the people of Cuba to get an unfiltered transmission of information is a great thing,'' said U.S. Senate candidate Mel Martínez, who co-chaired the presidential commission that recommended the flights.

Martínez said White House staffers called to deliver the news that C-130 cargo planes had managed to override jamming efforts by the island's communist government.

President Bush allocated $18 million in May to pay for the flights, though lawmakers said the frequency and timing of future broadcasts would remain classified.

''It's a wonderful day for the enslaved Cuban people, and I'm sure Castro is enraged and finding new and devious ways to block the transmissions,'' said U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami.

some folks are scared of what is going on in the Americas... not like that will do anything to break the Cuban people's spirit... they're smarter than Miami likes to think. Someone tell these folks in Florida how they're living in a time warp.

I emailed this post to my friends in Cuba. They think these Miami Cubans idea of "liberating" them is a joke. The reality is that Cubans believe they are simply out of their minds. Just because you have folks leaving on rafts and things doesn't mean this is how the majority of them feel. Cubans are more connected to ideas of freedom than propaganda-believing U.S.'ers seem to think. I lived in Cuba and have an understanding of what the typical Cuban feels like. While things can sometimes get problematic, they are happy having the socialist base for their society. They look at Puerto Rico as an enslaved island who will one day be liberated from the clutches of U.S. Imperialism. Miami Cubans just will never get the point. They want to "liberate" Cuba and establish the same BS Batista had back before 1959.

Those Miami Cubans are hilarious.

Back in the early 90s while i was living in cuba, i listened to Radio Marti and laughed for many a hour. Advertised were 10 pounds of beef for 99 cents. Brand new cars for 2,000 dollars, and companies saying that starting basic jobs with no experience starting at about 2,500 dollars a month. It was really funny and i was pretty glad to know that no one i was around took any of it seriously, and it was usually listened to as something to laught at.
