View Full Version : Just how safe is the internet?

 This is a fun topic. Ever think about the internet no longer being a "free-speech zone"?

We trust these corporations that handle our internet connection and the flow of information and letting our state comb through it?

Obviously a site like this will be a hotspot for some federally funded snoop to take a look at to make sure no TERRISTS are among us... The whole history of the internet and corporate involvement in its creation as well as it's military roots kind of throw me for a loop of "what ifs". It's a bit paranoid but look at us, we discuss revolutions on public forums on such a suspicious medium in times of the constitutional rights being chipped away and WORLDWIDE TERRISM.

So what do you think about the net... could BIG BROTHER seriously be watching you? And if so... what sort of consequences do you think comes along with posting a lot of this stuff on the internet for all to see? Does anyone else have second thoughts about the internet as well? It's a bit of a convenience but I don't like the fact that my IP address number is much like a red rod on the map of the internet. and is it even worth the risk of the internet to continue the make such posts on public forum?

Also, take a look at what the internet is becoming... what do you see its future role in society and politics or even control.

you have a very good point. anyone could be watching what is written or being talked about etc. however in the short time ive been on here ive never seen any detailed sort of plan on a revolution, so i dont really see any offences we commit. also clearly the government etc dont monitor everything i mean just look at the existence of paedophile forums and stuff, which are much more illegal than discussing politics, although possibly not so worrying to the dirty old politicians lol

ISPs often block web sites so the 404 error page comes up as if the site didn't exist.

This is why third world countries exist. They dont have the resources to bother with checking what your doing, nor do they have any reason to be paranoid. If there's anyone from the US or UK in here, heres my recommendation: move to nepal. Theyll never bother with monitoring. Of course, if you're a REAL revolutionist they can probably still get a hold of you somehow. But the local authorities will be helpless to catch you. (Granted that the FBI might STILL be watching, but hey, no worries....or...something)

being that I frequent this site among many news sites from Cuba and Venezuela and other leftist sites, the FBI and CIA are probably monitoring my movements.

FUCK THE POLICE :D

DemocraticUnderground has it's Agent Mike, Urban75 has, well, Mike himself ... and both have untold agent provocateurs (official and just well-trained lap dogs). And these sites are tame compared to Che. Recall the travails of voxnyc/voxfux and the kid who ran monkeyfist. Sure they're out there monitoring these sites at some level.

PNAC's Rebuilding America's Defenses has a passage about the importance of controlling the internet and using it as an offensive PSYOP weapon (on page 57 or thereabouts). So far the Gee Dubya regime is deploying the PNAC plan as carefully as a chef creating haute cusine. The control will come via exercise of the big chill. Examples will have to be made. Again, voxfux and monkeyfist for starters. So don't kid yourself, they are listening, and getting ready for Phase II.

This is a bulletin board, a public forum; all of us should exercise the same care we would if we were on a soapbox in the village square. That we continue to speak truth to power is either a hallmark of our bravery or our recklessness, or both.

But note: The Iron Heel is coming down. Our police, those hired to "protect and serve", are increasingly militarized. We all saw FTAA in Miami -- has anyone seen the pictures coming out of NYC ahead of the RNC? Chilling. It's clear whom they ptotect and serve, and it's not us. The heel is coming down. Patriot Act I is law and Patriot Act II will be ramrodded through whole if they successfully LIHOP or by piecemeal stealth without LIHOP. It's coming down, rest assured.

Peak oil and growing contention for dwindling resources -- well, what did you think the elites would do, eat less? No, they have masterplans for the homeland, der fuhrer and crew. You and I in their eyes, we are either useless eaters (attributed to Kissinger) or cannon fodder (attributed to GHWB) -- either way, we die a death of deprivation or violence to maintain their way of life. And those who speak up? Recall Abu Ghraib, School of the Americas, the Central American Holocaust (the list is long) -- that terror can easily be turned on us. GWB didn't bring Abrams, Riech, Negroponte and Pondextor back into the halls of power for nothing: They mean to Latin Americanize America, downsize the quality and quantity of life, all to ensure, if even only for a time, continuance of their rapacious, luxuriante life-styles.

So someday what we post here may be read back to us just before we each are dunked underwater on a water board, or while standing hooded with electrodes attached -- hey, SOA needs "volunteers" upon which to teach others the latest in torture techniques! Have our names already been added to the waitlist?

The illusion of freedom in America will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre.
--Frank Zappa, 1977

We are rapidly approaching "that point where the illusion becomes too expensive" and they're about to send in the brownshirts to dismantle the remainig backdrops and set pieces of our pretend democracy.

So there's so much more fun to come. Be ready. Be smart.

my friend i think internet is one of the last shining beacons of free speech to exist in this god for saken world. The problem that the FBI and CIA actually attack people like sherman austin for hosting websites that are against conventional society.

Note my outrageously high post count, gaf. ;)

But, no, I don't mean not to use the internet -- it is a last bastion for free speech (even if forums like this have become a virtual variety of "free speech zones"). All I mean by my last (quoted) comment is don't let the internet become a substitute for action.

I also acknowledge that February 15 wouldn't have happened (at least not at the numbers seen) without the internet. Of course, you and I are not the only one's to have seen that. Establishmentarian agents, of course, know this too. And in a society that can wreak the violent havoc of the past 50 years (Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Chile, Phillipines, East Timor and on ad infinitum) -- well, who here is naive enough to believe that, if forums such as this ever rise to a level that truly rock the class boat, that oppressive steps won't be taken?
