The question which i will base my a level coursework on will be something along the lines of - 'To what extent was che guevara simply a hollow icon of the cuban revolution rather than a significant historic figure?' This in no way reflects my view on guevara as i am a firm fan after reading 'che guevara a revolutionary life'.

Anyone got any ideas as to how i can approach this question..any books / quotations / opinions ?? I am in the preliminary stages of gathering evidence on the topic of Guevara and perhaps the question needs adjustments either to make it more interesting or to remove errors?

Appreciated...

For a start dont call him "Che" call him by his real name Ernesto "Che" Guevara, and I would alter your question, I dont know what to, but the question seams a little weak.

For this I would suggest that you build your self a case against che, and then a case in favour of him, both comprising of say 3 points. For each point find a source and a counter source. Analyse then dig up as much dirt on the sources as you can!

I suggest that you try and avoid actual sources from Che, as he is obviously a very bias source, only use him to discribe situations, or his actions. Dont conclude what he says is accurate.

Thanks for the ideas. Yer I know what you mean about the question but I cant really think of any alternatives at the moment...? Could maybe just find a source suggesting he was a 'myth' or 'image' rather than a great revolutionary and argue it but Im having trouble finding a suitable quote.
