Do you think that the "founding fathers of the U.S.A. wanted it to become the U.$.A?

The founding fathers experienced the revolution as a secular event, as they were enlightened men inspired by the modern ideals of John Locke. The declaration of independence, drafted by Jefferson, with John Adams and Franklin was an enlightenment document, based on the ideal of self-evident human rights propounded by Locke. These rights were defined as "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

However, John Adams, the second president of the USA was suspicious of any polity that might lead to mob rule and the impoverishment of the rich. So in a sense you can say that he was an elitist. I don't know, personally I think that in today's world John Adams would be your 'ideal' republican (or Whig as they were called back then) president, an apparently respectable God fearing patrician, whose main policy would be the protection of big corporations.

As for Washington, Jefferson and Franklin. Well, I believe that they would be disappointed if not appalled by the despotism of today's america. But hey, you never know.
