Since the forum had nothing on this, I thought I'd pass around this bit of info.
It is about the mayor of México City. His name is Andrés Manuel López Obrador. He is somewhat of a leftist. He is certainly not a socialist, although he is far more to the left than anything the U$ has ever seen. Anyhoo, he was elected in 2000 as mayor of the most populous city in the world with more than half of the votes and, from the very start, he left it very clear that he was not going to put up with our President's bull shit. The president of México, Vicente Fox, comes from the worst party that could ever exist. It's like the republican party, only more religious and supportive of the catholic church. This party is made up of a group of reactionary individuals who want to open the market at the expense of exploit...well, you know how it is.
The point of this long story is that, about 8 months ago, López Obrador realized that this landowner had in his possession a piece of land which actually belonged to the state, and so he took it away and used it for the city's benefeit. Later, when trying to build a road to a hospital, he encountered the same problem with another land owner who claims that this new land is his and not the city's. Now, a government-backed TV station (the biggest one in the country) does nothing but show the bad sides of México City and blame it on him (apparently, he is to blame for every stick-up that happens in a city of 20 million). Anything to make him look bad, not to mention all the lies and fabrications. Same techniques that the CIA has been using in other countries for decades. I guess our president is just fulfilling a promise one of his predecessors made to H.W. Bush: to eliminate this left-inclined party from México so it becomes a two-party system (similar to you-know-who), with the two parties being the one in power (PAN), and the one that held power for 66 years - the PRI(although, looking at this ultra-conservative president, the PRI doesn't seem so bad).
Well, that's all. Just thought I'd let my anger out with you guys. I guess you have to live here to feel it. Any mexicanos here who can complement this information? Sorry bout the length... :D
