i rented a movie called, "Good bye lenin" today it's a german film about a young man who lives in East germany in 1989. His mother is a devoted member of the socialist party, but she suffers a heart attack and slips into a coma. eight months later when she wakes up the wall is down and capitalism has taken over. But her loving son Alex does everything he can to try and hide the fall of the border. At some parts its funny with the change from socialism to capitalism and everything, and other parts its really emotionial.
It's a great movie and won several awards i believe

I usually try and keep away from the "idiot box", but every now and then, I treat (stupefy rather) myself with a movie.
And last month I got out Good bye Lenin, and to my gross surprise, from what I have heard about it--I loathed it. The narrative was great, the acting ability was first-class, and the imaginary was implausible, but, I just didn't enjoy it.
I guess, I just don't like movies. It's for the best!

I thought it rocked my socks!
It's really very beautiful how Alex does all of that for his mother. Because if you recall carefully from the beginning of the film, his mother clenched onto socialism when her husband left her. He replaces his father as a protector of the only thing she has in her life: socialism. Great movie. See it.

I saw the box for the movie in my local blockbuster and of course the title grabbed my attention. I read the back and decided against it because it sounded anti-communist to me and i really didn't feel like sitting through and hour and a half of propaganda. Perhaps I was wrong. I ended up renting scarface, which ruled by the way.

Scarface pwns!
But Goodbye Lenin is good. The message is not at all biased one way or the other.

I saw this on the big screen a long time ago expecting it to be good.
It was shit.
I nearly fell asleep in the theatre.
I liked the concept of it, but, all in all, it was just a poorly made movie.

yeah I saw it a couple of months ago aswell but i though it was great!
Its not really communist propaganda cuz it also shows the lesser side of the DDR...it had some funny remarks about capitalism aswell as communism. for those who saw the movie: I espcially found the part where alex is sitting on a bench during the festivities at the begining of the movie and says "so here I Am at the Highpoint of my masculine power"...I thought that was quite funny...
but the film also shows how (especially older people) look back at the time of the DDR with warm feelings in their harts...and thats true, a lot of the east germans still have symphatie for the communist ideas
