Well damn, I have just completely lost confidence in my age group after two weeks of high school. In any of my classes that ever involve debate or discussion of any kind always degrades to "Well im Jewish and we control everything!" "Im southern Baptist and belive in Jesus!" "I HATE Arabs they kill my people in Israel!" "you can never be succsessful withouts God's help..I remember when I used to not belive in Jesus!"
And whenever our "goals for life" come up- "Im goning to get rich or die trying!" "Im gonna join the Army or Navy!" (i live in the USA). "I want to lead a succsesfull life in the name of God!" I mean COME ON! They make me sick, and so so dissapointed. Has anyone had any *positive* experiences with todays youth? I really hope they get over this whole religion and greed thing.
I have also decided I offically loathe religion- it does nothing but divide us and make hatred.

apparently your talking with the wrong people, the sad truth is thier are tons of ignorant bastards out there, but its not their fault. Our government excells at brainwashing the public and they always all the way back to the days when the constitution was written. The best way to gain someones interest in leftist ideals is to find at least one ideal they share with you and work from there, but be really subtle about it, that way they'll never know what hit them.

Young people are the most radical. So naturally there are radically progressive and the radically reactionary. In America, however, the more apolitical youth tends to be extremely sexist, misogynistic, and homophobic. Sometimes even racist, nationalistic, and economically reactionary. If they even know enough to be economically reactionary.

Homophobia, I am glad to say, is extremely rare here at Riverwood and we've actually talked about how much it sux a few times. But yeah, I do share a few ideas with some people, but anyone that ever seems to say anything Leftist dosent seem to serious about it, just like communism and anarchy are just some kinda funny joke where marijuana would be legal...zzz oh well maybe they will get over the consumption and greed our society crammed in them?

So? If that's a value that's important to them, exploit it! It may start as some sort of joke, some sort of stoner thing, but before youth can begin to learn to take Communism seriously, they need to think it's cool. That's why I laugh whenever I hear someone say Che has been commercialized by these people buying the shirt only thinking "he was a cool rebel" and not knowing more. Everyone's gotta start somewhere!
Teens have a natural sense of rebellion in them, especially if they participate in illegal activities  you just need to find a way to let them channel it :)

Yes, I find the whole rebellion thing is in all of us teens. But yeah they have redeemed themsevles, I had a hell of a time yesterday..I brought a flask of this tequila+vodka+gin+ soy sauce and sugar stuff i made to some girls party..Her mom confiscated it..It really sucked, but it did kinda bring us all closer, some people dident even get a chance to taste it! Kinda roused the revolutionary in us, it was unjust for her just take it from me (who knows what shes gonna do with it now that she has it hidden away in her kitchen..zzz lame) But yeah ive really kinda just started looking past politics and relgion, there cool people! But I havent given up
Get up Stand up

That's hilarious! Sorry, but that's just so funny!! I fele sorry for you though, I really do.

No, other then a few people on Che-lives. People here are nice, but I don't know any other teenagers that are nice, smart or funny. I generally hate teenagers, and I am one. Ah, that's why I hate myself....
I feel really isolated because I can't communicate with other people at my age. For them it's all about sex, getting drunk, hating foreigners, or watching TV.
I have also decided I offically loathe religion- it does nothing but divide us and make hatred.
You're not alone. :)
I was going to say the exact same thing, but I think it needs to be said again:

Can I see that research?
I always found the youth to be more rebellious and more radical.
At least compared to the older folks, no?

i know what its like, i'm not "smartest" person alive, but i do know quite abit about whats going on in the world.
but my mates, well they are to busy, getting high, chatting up girls and getting into fights to take time and even think about learning about the world and current world state, its just ignorence, they dont care if people half way around the world are being slaughtered, it doesnt effect them.
I cant say lots of them want to get rich, not many of them have the brains for it.

sadly thats so true, you got me thinking about how we can make it affect them, but no luck in that. i do remember before the iraq war a few girl in my college (i was around 17) went to protest against it, maan was i shocked at that, those girl were like kinda popular and one was sexy as hell....i felt ashamed that i didnt go :(

The only youths that so far that have impressed me is Mike Fakelastname and Schumi--- that's it. The rest are into Hip Hop/heavy metal suicide or are materialistic or are terrible generally. That goes for the world outside this forum too.

When was this research done? Is it compared to old people when they were young?
I agree with you that this generation of young people is very conservative, the rebellios spirit our former generations had is gone. This generation is happy with it's MTV, Big Macs and right wing rethorics.
I have the same when I go to school, most people seem to be right wing in idea set, Che Guevara gets called a "failure of a terrorist". US had to do the things they did in Latin America to keep the world a safe place, that sort of thing.
And that is what I've heard from people who are politically speaking the most intense, which was only 2 or 3 people. Most young people are no longer interested in what is going on in their world, or they like it and dont really care because they have their MTV, Big Macs and crappy top 40 records.
In poorer countries there is a little bit more going on, in Portugal there is a very "anti US/anti Bush" thing amongst the young people, left wing graffiti on walls that kind of stuff, here in Holland all the graffiti is basicly some guy's name or a drawing of a girl with giant breasts.

From my experience in high school being a softmore now i noticed a few things your average a political teenager is a dumbfuck and will ask you simple questions like why do you believe in communism. Many reason for this is just they dotn understand and as they sometimes say what they dont understand they scorn which in a suburban high school nothing could be closer to the truth.
Sadly many Caldean kids in my school which is the race of arab people who com from the babylonian empire. They are very Racist, ignorant, close minded and lets not forget spoiled. This stems a huge problem in my high school of hatred torward the middle east jews and any leftists ideal. I have actually been punched before because of my beliefs. Also a majority of my school is apolitical which freakin sucks because im trying to start a political club to get more people for the CGLM (http://www.cglm.net).

Anyone who says God dictates their life are unaware of their self control, sadly our both religous and wealth oriented society will cause only mayhem, never a solution.
Oh, and my first day of school:
