Around 20.000 mercenaries that works for the US occupation will remain immune for charges of harrassment and abuses in Iraq. Professional "contractors" in Iraq includes former Pinochet-soldiers, and apartheid agents.
Today there are 35 foreign private companies within security and intelligence that works in Iraq, with a collected personell on over 20.000
They work as mercenaries, bodyguards, and intelligence agencies for the occupation. Many of these are involved in the protection of big companies inside the oil industry in the country, and helps the US occupation with assistance with information and intelligence.
In American military manuals it says that mercenaries can not be charged under American law, if not there is a decleration of war. Private persons that operates as contractors has written under agreements taht secures their immunity against charges on the foundation of Iraqi law.
