Got to talk w/ madeline albright™ yesterday in Texass
Q & A session @ SMU yesterday, it was pretty nifty....
Of course, I wanted her to clarify the : ***"Lesley Stahl, speaking of US sanctions against Iraq: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And -- and you know, is the price worth it?" Madeline Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price -- we think the price is worth it." --Madeline Albright, May 12, 1996 statement on "60 Minutes": ***
of course, i was all apoligetic and all for bringing up what i was sure was one of her least faveorite topics, which it is, but she gave a pretty decent answer to me....after i told her why i have such an interest in the region in that mcveigh was a soldier in the gulf war and his rage was born there...basically baiting her for what i would add later...
she, after i lightened the crowd up w/ several jokes and stuff replied that the reporter basically asked her over and over and over until she finally gave that answer, which she is very very sorry that she did, and that she absolutley did not mean...she went on about how this question comes up a lot and she always has to deal with it....i suggested she deal with it. mcveigh, i told her, was caught after blowing up murrah with a shirt with the jefferson quote "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the with the blood of patriots and tyrant." (which of course jefferson said when he was in france, miiiiiiiiiles away from the action)...and that her quote will, if it has not already, fuel middle easterners to do likewise (not that these pithy quotes or misquotes are the end all, but they are fuel and needles that break the proverbial camels back and junk).....so anyway, she said that sounded pretty cool and then i think i became the first person ever to suggest that perhaps she cut a rap song with the message of her not meaning to say that, as it would probably reach more people....she thought that was pretty funny....
