View Full Version : Best Scream in Rock

Okay, let's get down to the serious issues. What do you think is the greatest recorded scream in rock and music generally?

For me the absolute tops has got to be Roger Daltrey's second scream in the Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again' with Joe Strummer's scream at the beggining of 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' a close second.

Other memorable screams being Mick Jager in the coda to 'Sympathy for the Devil', the whooping going on during Muddy Water's 'Mannish Boy' as well as various screams from Paul McCartney during the Beatles' early output, 'Can't Buy Me Love' being a good example.

Any other contenders?

I would go for Tom Arya of Slayer.
The scream in the start of "Angel Of Death" is amazing in my oppinion.
New Bomb Turks also provide some good screams though

Fuckin' right :) Although I reckon it's been topped by a woman called Clare Torry - if the name means nothing to you, don't worry: She sessioned on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Can you guess which track? :D

great gig in the sky. yeah yeah yeah. she's got this good soaring wail thing going on but it can't top janis's passion. not by a long shot.

Really?

IMO, the first deftones album is the best, which is "Adrenaline". "Around the Fur" is cool too. I saw them at my first concert, which was back in '98. :)

Listen to the Burzum song 'Black Spell of Destruction', I am unable to pick a single "scream"(perhaps shriek is the better word?) from the song to be best, but it's full of excellent ones.

You know who else is a proficient screamer? Mariah Carey. Too bad she can't create any good music w/that talent.

Within the context of rock, I would suggest Chris Cornell as well.

My best scream in a rock song would have to be Dennis from Refused, on the song New Noise. If you don't know who Refused were then you should check them out, they were Swedish Hardcore/punk.
