Has anybody else seen this film, brillant depiction of what went wrong with the French Revolution, how the desire for power and control usurped the power of the people.

Danton is interesting because he didn't think people should deprive themselves of pleasure and vice. He recognized this is humanity and didn't think whether or not a person enjoys themselves or not does not determine their Revolutionary furvor.

In fact it is the purists who betray the Revolution tending towards facism and control according to Danton. With their inability to trust the people to rule themselves and their greed towards control and "saving the nation" quite interesting.

I haven't seen the film, it sounds very interesting though! I read a book on Danton and the French Rev. however.

I do emphatically remember a quote in one of the recent Che biographies of Regis Debray saying that Fidel was always likened to Robespierre and Che to Danton, but in his Debray's opinion, he thuoght opposite, that che was more like Robespierre and Fidel like Danton. :(
