Actually the counting isn't finished but Le Pen cannot come back. By the last count I head over 66% of the votes had been counted and Chirac has 81.6% and Le Pen had 18.4%

Ok, final count is 17.9% for Le Pen and 81.1% for Chirac. Does anyone know what percentage of the electorate turned up?

Yes it is very worrying that the Far Right are becoming very popular in many countries. At least in France there is an explanation for it because of voter apathy in the first round.

Forgive my ignorance but what party does Chirac belong to?

The Gaullest party I think. It mightn't be the official name though.

Chirac is a conservative, however he is backed by all the far-left parties to oust the neo-fascist Le Pen.

I wonder where Batista is, he made a thread about Le Pen winning the first round.

It was straight on clear who would vin, since the end of the first round of the elections.
Yeah, and if you don't remember my prediction on the results of the presidential election in France, I would remind you all, that I had said 12-14% for Le Pen. Well, that was close enough.

It's very good that Chirac won but at the same time the situation was ridiculous. The French people didn't had to vote for, they had to vote against! And I don't think that Chirac is the best president either....

We heard you the first time, Revolutionary Hero. ;)

Le Pen hadn't a chance of winning, he was never much of a contender right from the start, I'm glad the final result proved just how low his popularity truly was. It was rather disturbing that he'd gotten a little more than a mere scraping of support, though.
