It's about the City of God, a slum in Rio De Janeiro. It was filmed with actual inhabitants of the slum, most of whom have disappeared or been killed since. It's pretty intense. To top it all off, it has a feel-good ending, too! In any case, I recommend it...one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

i watched it a few weeks ago, it was AWESOME!
It's a new film i believe about the slums back in the 1960's through the 1970's and they focus on the drug/gang wars there along with curruption and street crimes.

It's a powerful movie. Probably the best movie of 2003.
Get the DVD. There's a great documentary about the real "City of God" in the special features. Very interesting.

That's an awesome movie. It's liks some Brazillian guy, saw "Boyz in the Hood" and thought, awww that's nothing I'll show you a real hood.
On the version I rented, they had this documentary about the war between the hoods, and the pigs. Really, really sad :( .

One of the best films I have ever seen, one of the few I actually bought on DVD. The docu that come's with it was worth buying the DVD alone.

I agree it's a great movie. I didn't feel that it had a feel good ending though as the main character who tells the story and gets out of the slums didn't seem to be involved in anything significant, it might of made it a fell good ending for me if the film hadn't already had too many bad things.
First Benny died, he was one of the cool one's to me and got shot in his last in the slums. Also Carrot will eventually get out of jail and come back to the slum. The state of peace where the city was controlled realitvely peacefully by ze is over. And the runts are quite violent, less than ze at their age but still ready to kill and they can easily get their hands on the weapons which the city is awash with following the war.
One person getting out didn't seem to change anything for me as it ended and it just looked like a whole new cycle of violence would be starting again and also the violence is ingrained in any of the city's young who had survived.

I am very anti-Nazi. I feel proud I might have been party responsible for its closure.

Which version of the slums is kewler?
The 60's version with the dusty roads and generic houses?
Or the 70's - 80's version with the crazy buildings?

It was filmed with actual inhabitants of the slum, most of whom have disappeared or been killed since.
Actually, the cover says something about the fact that they couldn't film in that area because it was too insecure. They went to another slum where things were a little safer...
Have any of the main characters dissapeared or been killed?
Which version of the slums is kewler?
Who said that? :(
