John Peel recently won some award for his kifetime contribution to underground music... what a cool guy. Has anyone ever listened to his show? I wish I could get it in Australia other than over the net.

I listen to him often but not quite every show. He's one of my all time heroes, mostly because he's just a really nice guy. I mean seriously nice, I spoke to him on the phone once and emailed him for a while, really really decent down-to-earth bloke, which is impressive considering his job and everything. I guess that's why he's so good at his job, he doesn't let "fame" get in the way. And his music taste is impeccable (well mostly!). My fave bit of every show has to be the pig's big 78 (that right? i can't remember exactly). And I adore all the really old folky-blusey stuff.

I unfortunately can't get it here. I do however have some of rare Peel session records. The diversity of the music he plays is incredible everything from The Damned to Electro Hippies (grind) over to pop.

the mans great, I just wish I could listen to him more, he helped to make a lot of music reach a wider audiance than it would have with some other DJ like Tony Blackburn.
