Urban Rubble

First off, a round of applause for this band called "Throw Rag". I'd never heard them but I was really impressed by their show. The singer wore a wacky captains hat the whole time, so that got him a few points immediately, but they were just really great. They had a fat guy with a washboard hung around his neck playing spoons on it !! I don't know what to say, they were really good, they excited and unified the crowd. I felt like it was 1982 !!
The Stiff Little Fingers absolutely blew me away (despite the fact that they wore matching teal, button up Elvis shirts and tight black Levis). They haven't lost a bit of energy since 77. They played alot of the classic tracks, Nobodys Hero, Tin Soldiers, Fade Away, Alternative Ulster, It Doesn't Make it Alright, and new stuff like Each Dollar a Bullet (which I sang the final verse of) Guitar and Drum and Stummerville (a song about Joe). This show reinstilled my faith in punk rock. It's amazing how a band can bring a crowd together and energize a room so completely. It's an odd contrast, going to a newer band's show like Rise Against vs seeing a show like SLF. The best way to describe it would be "unity". People hugging, singing along with each other. I went to the show by myself but found no shortage of people to talk to, drink with, and put your arm around their shoulders and sing. It's something the punk scene of today is greatly lacking, unity. I'm still recovering, it was just such a great show, it put me in the best mood.
Sorry, I'm rambling, I'm on a lack of sleep. Bottom line, if SLF comes through your town, even if you're not a big fan, go see them. Go see what a punk show is (or used to be) all about. Unity, comraderie, and respect.
