I have recently started 'writing' on my car windows with window car paint stuff. Right now i have a list of casualties in the Iraq war and at the bottom
WMD's Found : 0
Now, here is the problem. My job has told me that i am not allowed to park my car on the property with that written on it. Can they legally do that? They have threatened my job and i feel its unfair that my political views are being attacked when its clearly being represented on my personal property. Noone going to my restaurant is going to know that the car belongs to a cook.
Just curious is anyone knows of any legal way to fight back against this. Email me with information at
[email protected]
Thanks

Tell them you're going to be informing your union.

The problem of course is that your job is on private property, and they're argument will be that they don't want any political statements that may taint their business. Most likely a judge would uphold their argument.
Can you park just off company grounds?

Probably the other problem is that you're going to get ticketed by the pigs for obstructing your window views. Maybe you should paint a scene representing your views on the hood and trunk, as paint on paint might be less noticeable and is not deemed illegal to do.

I would rekon that it is probably illegal. Would they object if you drove a pick-up truck with US flags all over it, and bumper stickers saying things like, 'Nuke Osama,' and, 'I support the troops?'
I doubt they would. I would definitly ask your union about that one.

my union... hahahahahah..
we don't have a union and we never will. There is a whole whopping 4 cooks, and besides, the rest of them would never be up for the idea of starting a union, no matter how small it would be. Thanks for all the info. It seems my only option is biking to work and keeping my car how i want it. Thanks alot!

Isn't there some sort of national union you could join? I know in the the UK there are unions for absolutly every profession.

Oh, there probably is. But if i join one, i can forget about ever getting promoted, or getting OT or anything else that i get just because i work my ass off and dont ask for anything. Being in a union would hurt me more than help me.

But if they did that, you could get your union to take action against them...

Yes but the likelihood of an American union taking action for a single worker is incredibly unlikely.

There's the wobblies. Industrial workers of the world. They Will defend the single worker. They organize by industry rather than trade. for you that would be Dept. 600--- Restaurant, Hotel, and Building Service Workers Industrial Union 640, or IU 660,General Distribution, retail, which Starbucks recently joined.
(All workers in facilities for public accommodation. All building service workers)
and you can join singly without your employers ever knowing it for six bucks a month if you make under a $1000.00 . Pretty good deal. And as you know PS,
you can unionize without fear of losing your job. It is illegal for employers to interfere.

Talk to RC, he joined the wobblies.

Wow, thanks for the info, i'll be sure to check out that link. I have one question though, which i'm sure is on the page, yet i'll ask anyways. I make about 900 or so after taxes, before taxes, it may be JUST above 1,000 a month. So, do you know if its before or after taxes?

I would think Net -- after taxes. But, if you make more than $1,000 mo. the monthly due is $12 for the +1,000-$2,000 mo. bracket.
