Hello,

My name is Manos. I'm 25 years old and live in Chicago. I'm moving to Athens Greece and transferring my citizenship this years. I currently support the progressive left party of Synaspismos, which is based partly on the philosophies of Nicos Poulantzas (early school of French structural Marxism who later evolved into the self management theory) and Andre Gorz ecological socialism. I find the need to label oneself with terms such as "Leninist," "Marxist," "Maoist," intellectually limiting and point rather to one's need to define themselves -- of course such terms are needed in discussions concerning ideologies, but become something like the material trends which are laughed at by the same so called intellectuals who wear these terms as high school girls sporting the pins of their favorite bands on their backpack.

I don't believe that any real social change can come from a reformist movement. That being said, while Synaspismos is very much a reformist party, it pushes for the progressive left until such a time presents itself as for a true revolutionary party. Anyone who believes that one time is as good or opportune time as another to employee a revolution is lost in a romanticism with the act of a revolution rather then obtaining it main objective of a true democracy. For such people there's video games and paint ball retreats.

I've been in the chat room a couple of times and I've had many interesting discussion. I'm glad I've encountered people on this site who know something about communism and progressive left movements past Lenin and Trotsky (not to downplay either). I hope to engage in more of these discussions on here in the future.

I do not know that much about this party not being up on Greek politics but am interested in learning more from your contributions.

Welcome to our forum, should we take off our shoes and have tea?

I have yet to find a label to hold me
but truth is there is not a label to hold anyone. I can say for example I support Diez-seis de Septembre, but I am not Mexican and have little to do with garment workers in Mexico, but I support them none-the-less.

Perhaps a better statement would be to say I respect them and wish to aid them and other groups when I can.

I have seen forums in NYC and other countries where socialists can convene and work together towards greater action, but is difficult in the states, our group in NYC was infiltrated even though it was simply a women's congress, because it initiated very strong concentrated direct action. A threat now in the U.S.
But these discussions can take place later or independently elsewhere...
Truth is most people find me a bit wild. :P

thanks to both of you for the greeting.

the Synaspismos website is Syn.Gr

But, I think you'll gain a better apreciation for the effect Nicos Poulantzas has had over European leftist politics and ultimately one of the forefathers of EuroCommunism if you go to Amazon.com and pick up one of his books. Hope you enjoy them.

Why not just get some from a library???

If your library carries any books from Nicos Poulantzas then consider yourself lucky.
