Ah, the words we hear in every war...
The words we heard in World War One,
The words we heard in World War Two..
The words we heard in Korea,
The words we heard in Vietnam,
The words from Iraq...
From Afghanistan...
Well, what is with this excessive spread of the notion that the United States is 'winning' it's war. What is with this Orwellian side changing. Thirty years ago, americans were waving flags in support of Afghanistan, Osoma Bin Laden was seen as a freedom fighter by president Ronald Raegan. The movie 'Red Dawn' was placed out as an anti-soviet film during the time. In fact, even buying the movie today, will indicate (Within a certain pamphlet with the movie.) that the creator of the movie is reminding us that 'Things like this happen in afghanistan every say'. He says that Afghanistan is a state with devoted people, that will defend it against any invador, especially the 'evil soviet empire'.
Well, quite a turn of events here, aren't there?
A while back, our leaders were insuring us that we needn't worry about the red threat. Assuring us that the Afghans were devoted people, and had GREAT tactics for stopping invaders. They showed pictures of strong gunsmen, charging towards their 'evil' invaders. But what happened now? When I look in the time magazine, I don't see the 'strong' warriors that America was glorifying not long ago. I see an old man, with a dusty rifle, and a caption under it.
This is a picture of the common Afghanistan conscript. All of which are ill equipted, and very unsucessful in most battle tactics.
Funny..
I could have sworn Raegan said that they were 'warriors', wheres that burly guy with the machine gun? Well... Here's the reason why. America has to be 'winning' this war. Even if they're loosing, they must be 'winning'. Notice that the Media RARELY reports any U.S casualties. The only times they do report them, are when a soldier is killed accidentally, or via friendly fire. They don't talk about the one soldier who was killed by a fourteen year old, or the 10-15 bodies that were being sent to the red cross every day. The media will tell us what THEY want us to hear, especially around these nationalistic times. They portray the American military as an Invincible Military machine, showing pictures of 'liberated' cities. (Crime has soared over 50% in some of these 'liberated' cities, by the way.) Anyone who questions these methods of 'liberation' is considered an 'anti-american', and called a terrorist. IN fact, the word terrorist is being used so often, it is loosing meaning. As if it wasn't bad enough that George had to make up some 'Axis of Evil', for his little christian fundamentalist crusade, and label random countries, such as North Korea terrorists.
The media will say we are winning every war we fight. We can be hiding in bunkers, while airplanes drop bombs overhead, we will still be 'winning' the war, according to Bush and Co. America is entering a new phase of militarism. Television is flooded with military recruitment ads. And idiots around my shcool believe that they alone will rummage through over 647,500 square miles to look for Goldstien! Oh, sorry.. 'Osoma'. Because you know, we ARE winning the war after all...
Just like in Vietnam..
