I first have to admit that I would describe myself as knowing jack-shit about American politics.

Some said J.Kerry & Edwards are leftists, any thoughts on that comrades?

"Kerry, who has made his career by loving Communist murderers - Ho Chi Minh, Ortega, Castro - thinks a movement to create freedom of the press in Cuba is "counterproductive." "

"Edwards' 2 Americas speaches demonstrate his penchant for communism, his passion for having trial lawyers redistribute wealth until we are all equal despite the difference in effort."

I'm in a similar position to yourself - The US may as well be another planet politically. However, the comment returned to the link above is of interest...

Kerry is an appeaser. As we know from the immortal Winston Churchill, an appeaser is one who feeds the crocodile in the hopes he will eat him last. It's great to be for democracy, as long as you don't upset anyone in the process. Kerry would have encouraged our founding fathers not to sign the Declaration of Independence, because they might have gotten into trouble with George III.

Despite the fact that the poster got the analogy wrong - Neville Chaimberlain would be far more apt - this suits what little I know of Kerry. Like a great many politicians he appears to be in it 'for the sake of it', if you get my drift.

*EDIT*
Or is that a quote from Churchill? I've never been especially fond of the man so my knowledge of his 'catchphrases' is limited...

Awesome post, Disgustapated. Such eloquence! I dunno...I'd say they're pretty hardcore centrists. At this point, they are afraid of losing votes so they are pretty much doing and saying everything possible to appease everyone. Now, if you want a true leftist, I say look to none other than George W. Bush. What a revolutionary.

Brevity is the soul of wit.

Well after reading some of your nonsensical ramblings about the bourgeois politician Obama, I'm convinced that either you have no idea what a leftist is, or you naively believe the Democratic Party to represent the left.

At one time, Kerry could be considered to be fairly left, that was about 25-30 years ago. Now days, both Kerry and Edwards are centrist or moderates, as Bill Clinton was. After 8 miserable years of Reagan and 4 more of Bush, the democratic party decided that they needed to take up a more moderate stance and such as has been the political stance of the party ever since. Not they would have ever considered to be "left" in my mind ever.

No, they are not left. They are left of Bush and Cheney, but who isn't. In the world wide political spectum Kerry and Edwards would be considers right of center, Edwards more so.

I hate the political spectrum. Why can't we just go ahead and call them all fascists?

What the hell?

Cuban, it's a Churchill quote, he wasn't using Churchill as an example of an appeaser. Old Neville would've been on the spot if he had been looking for an appeaser, I believe.

it's hard to know what they really are. since now the democrats' tactic is not bush-bashing, they're being drawn farther and farther right to attract swing voters and not "alienate" anybody. and then the republicans point that out. these guys need to pick a definite opposite position if they want to stay in the game.

Kerry and Edwards are borderline fascists running on the left faction of the business party. Nothing about them is even remotely radical/leftist/communist... I predict Kerry will be another Clinton, make all these big promises and never deliver while politely bending over whenever corporate america want's to stick its proverbial dick up his ass.

Anyone who thinks Kerry and Edwards are leftists is either dillusional or misguided. Both only serve the interests of the upper class elitist. After all, they're politicians, so what else do you expect :P

They're definatley right-wing, but probably not as right-wing as Bush and Cheney.

I was listening to BBC radio 2 yesterday and they were talking to American voters who were undecided about who to vote for. When Jeremy Vine asked them about the policies of the candidates the general feeling was that policies didn`t matter. As long as they seemed presidential!

I don't think they will be much better than Bush on any level at all. However, I still would love to see Bush lose; so for that reason I support them.

Yep, thats the apathy deliberatly put into the American people by their government and 'news' networks.

But don't you want to see Kerry, one of the richest politicians alive, who would probably attack more people than Bu$h, lose too?
