Just wondering...does anyone know roughly how many members the CPUSA has?

Most people on this site has been turned off by their constant show of support for democratic candidates. I was/still am a member, however I've come to the conclusion that all they do is solicate money to write their monthly newsletter and various other literature, what they actually do beyond write their opinions on various things is beyond me.

I'm not American, but any party that backs one of the richest polititians alive deserves no support from us. They are a bunch of hypocrites, and need to get their ideas sorted.

Left parties traditionally exaggerate the size of their membership.

I think the CPUSA membership is probably between one and two thousand...but many are elderly and politically inactive.

Young leftists in the United States seem to have an "anti-party" attitude () but those that do sign up are probably most likely to join the Greens or, if they're interested in Leninism, groups like the Workers' World Party, the Revolutionary Communist Party, etc.

Anarchist groups of various kinds appear to be the "wave of the future" in American left politics now...or so it appears to me.

Yeah. I wouldn't say i am a member of Workers World Party but I do occasionally work with them. They just seem so much more active in working class issues and more diverse than CPUSA who are Democrat supporters. The only bad thing about Communist Parties are that they are centered only in the large cities so all of us folks in towns with 200,000 or less people have to travel like 2 hours for any socialist interaction. I have been rallying local socialists however and have come across about 15. All we have to do now is organize ourselves properly.

I think part of the problem is just the fact that they're a party. Organizing an effective political party in the country is damned hard. I know; I do it for a living. The average American isn't going to join a Communist Party, and the average American voter sure as hell isn't going to vote for one.

They will agree with them though, if you talk to them in a language that doesn't conjure up the media images of Eastern Europe, Cambodia, Cuba, et all. Especially now. But with all the brazen class rhetoric, they freak people out.

agreed. It is sickenign how much the rich have lied about socialism and socialist countries her eint he USA. I hoep the people will start to wake up..in a way I almost hope for Bush's re-election...the further right the nation goes, th emore the poeple will revolt.

Maybe they're suffering because their dogma is about as fresh as week old socks.
