View Full Version : Politics is the Art of Deception

What do you think of this quote? I'm 100% for it. Everywhere these days we see how politics becomes more about making the public believe half truths and lies so as to gain votes. Take for example in America, the Republicans jumped on Kerry after he was shown voting for yes and no on the same issues. That one minute detail was blown into a massive thing about him not being 'for anything'.
Its all an alterior motive these days, with millions of pounds being poured in to fund it all.

In the right context it certainly seems true. Politics, in terms of the interaction between a number of politicians competing for popular appeal might accurately be seen as "the art of deception".
Politics, as an area of study, abstracted from power vying between megalomaniacs, however, is a different matter.

politics is not only the art of deception but in the U$ , at least, is also the dirtiest game their is. Politicians will stop at nothing for power and wealth. They have compleat disregard for the people they supposedly "represent".

is there anyway we can prevent it from turning out this way though?

Get a party with candidates that actually get things done (for the good of the proletariat)?
Revolt!, Revolt?

we need de-centrialsed leadership, which hopefully would stop corruption.

politicts as in serving in congress should not by a CAREER. When it becomes someone full time job and they make a lifetime career out of it that is when things get corrupted and they think to much of their next term then what they are suppose to do!

i agree on this point, does anyone else have any ideas?

I see your point, but I think that in the UK the situation is the opposite. MP's get paid £50,000p/a to be an MP, but most of them have other jobs as lawers and editors etc, etc.
I think that they should be banned from taking other jobs, I would make it compulsory to be in Westminster for at least 5 days a week, and I would pay them exactly what the average wage is. That way they would have some incentive to actually represent normal people.
This is all a waste of time though, as I would just scrap the entire system, and start again with an anarchist one! :hammer:

I disagree.
If the intention and works done by that particular political leader is good and concrete (ultimately, gettin' things done), it is not an art of deception.
However, I believe in the process, those silly social connections and the at then meaningless ties and time wasted in social connections can be futile,
but in the end, if these can be turned into gaining power, then throwing the gains back to the citizens, then i have no objections to that.

I sort of agree with this on the surface, but if his/her worries for the next term is related to the genuine beliefs and aspirations of his/her people, will then that be still a problem? If he runs counters towards the public's voices, then out on the street is where he/she will be! Revolt against this power-hungry creature!
