The only thing I'd change to RedStar's essay-thing would be that we should teach kids some basic "number theory" (if they don't already know it), for example: When counting, the last number in the series corresponds to the total of the things which you are counting.

I know somebody who wasn't able to "grasp" that concept, and things weren't easy for her.

I have a nasty feeling that either I can't see what is to be grasped (surely using your fingers would show you?) or I am unable to grasp it

Before education, a genius was someone who could do math. We often foget this. Bear in mind, if no one taught math, it would be difficult to learn. Hence why those individuals (like archimides) were revered as geniuses.

Example: She would count one, two, three, four, five bananas. Then she would be asked "how many bananas are there". She would reply "seven". She didn't get that the number you count is the number which exist.

seseme street is a good example of a public program which provides positive qualities, living conditions which resemble both a productive capital or a productive commie society, elementary math, co-operation..................etc.

it is the education we learn from our sometimes greedy parents and friends which lours the mind into a life of idependance bent on materialism................
