Racism gaining ground in Russia

A moscow newspoll claims that 70% of russians feel that all non-ethnic russians and other minorities should be deported out of the country.

In a televised interview, a skinhead belonging to one of the radical nationalist groups showed home footage of his groups 'operations' targetting non-ethnics on the streets of moscow. Many of his home-videos depict fatal bashings.

'A 7 year old Armenian girl was beaten to death on the streets in broad daylight.'
The group interviewed, openly supports this action. They claim a total of 15,000 registered members so far, and plan to run in local elections.

Their party symbol is the double sided swastika.

'There are claims that the russian police is openly supporting the skin-head thugs, one policeman was quoted as saying; "You a skinhead? Carry on, I would do the same".'

The government has been totally inactive on these issues and none of the openly murderous thugs have been arrested.

It's true. A friend of mines brother recently went on a Russian exchange with our school. The only reason he went is because and Asian girl had to drop out for fear of racial attack when she was over there. It shows what fear these people can create to someone who isnt even a permanent resident in Russia.

The situation described in the article sounds frightening.

I read something several months back saying that a far-right nationalist party was fast becoming the third largest party in Russia. This was happening with support from the government of Vladmir Putin, who granted state-run media airtime to the party. Apparently, the growth of this third party is weakening Russia's Communist Party, and so Putin and Co. would rather deal with neo-Nazis.

Nothing new to capitalist politics, is it? Western corporations and governments were fond of Hitler and Mussolini, thinking at best that they would go to war with Stalin's USSR and all parties would be destroyed.

economic conditions are bad racism is rampant and there are extra-judicial murders of minority, lynching, brutality, etc.
