THE FASCIST LE PEN IS TAKING OVER FRANCE
For decades France has been spreading terror over the world. It has used
violence against the people of North
Africa and elsewhere. For years it has prepared the ground for racist
attacks against people from there who live in France. It has obstructed the
activities of foreign revolutionaries in its country in various arbitrary
ways and sentenced revolutionaries to many years of imprisonment. Using
violence and attack dogs the French state raided the associations of
revolutionaries from Turkey, it broke down and destroyed walls and doors.
For instance, although there isn't a formal ban on the DHKP-C in France, it
is de facto forbidden. This arbitrariness is intended on the one hand to
spread terror, on the other hand to take away democratic rights. And
finally, when they tried the revolutionaries of DHKP-C, they sentenced them
to long terms of imprisonment, saying: "They are the continuation of the
people associated with 1968, most of the '68ers are finished, but these
still haven't given up their ideology."
TOGETHER WITH SEPTEMBER 11 THE REACTIONARY GALE WAS ON THE INCREASE
After September 11, France took part in the chorus directed by the USA, and
it participated in the attacks that were unleashed using the demagogy of
terrorism against everybody, every organisation and every country in the
world which didn't act like their slaves. With the gale created by September
11, the reduction in democratic rights has had no bounds, once again amid
constant talk of "terrorism", and in particular presenting people of foreign
origin as a target. Because the left, democrats and revolutionaries,
especially from the Basque Country, Spain, North Africa and the Middle East
were always seen as a potential danger, hundreds of people could be kept in
prison for years without trial.
WHAT HAS THIS TO DO WITH LE PEN?
All this has led to the strengthening of political reaction. There were the
people in the world, and against them the people's enemies. There was the
political left in the world and its enemy the right. When the people and the
left are weakened and oppressed, naturally the people's enemies and the
right are strengthened. That's why Le Pen was strengthened. Not only Le Pen,
but all fascist and racist parties in Europe were strengthened in this way.
In real terms it must be concluded that the European states have
strengthened the far right. But leave this to one side, what has been
happening to the French left for years, to the French Communist Party with
its glorious past? Both its deputies in the European Parliament and the
national parliament were the ones who wouldn't let anybody near them. Among
all the parties, they were the most bureaucratic and the most distant in
their behaviour towards the left, especially the left of foreign origin.
What happens now? Le Pen came, Jospin fled, and the French Communist Party
saw the solution in supporting Chirac. Nobody yet knows how far this
political step backward will extend, but nobody sees that the existence of
both racism and of persons like Le Pen is in parallel with this step
backward. The solution is not to support Chirac, but to extend democratic
rights by countering his demagogy of "terrorism" and the pressure from the
USA in this direction.
