So, as American Lance Armstrong goes for his 7th Tour De France win, apparently some Europeans, mostly French I'm sure, are spitting on him, throwing things at him, and even trying to run into the street and slow him down.

This is the biggest display of American envy I've seen yet from France, and lets be honest, we've all seen a lot.

I could even understand them booing him, hoping that he doesen't beat them at their own race "yet again". But to treat him like they are, trying to simply cheat and slow him down, is atrocious. They are basically admitting that they can't beat him legitimately. It is good to see many American flags on the course, though. At least he has some support there.

This whole situation really illustrates the entire attitude of France toward the US: You out-do us in pretty much every aspect, so all we can do is result to petty name-calling, spitting, and toe-stepping to try and shake you up. Legitimately speaking, we can''t hold a candle to you.

Its really OK, as American strength and perseverance seems to be prevailing yet again. Despite atttempts to thwart his progress, Armstrong still leads, and looks to have enough of a margin to take it yet again.

It's not my impression. People cheer for Lance Armstrong. Maybe some french are mad, but considering how patetic the american media treated the french then it's no wonder.

Anyway funny that a man from the worlds fattest nation is in such good shape :D

The funny thing is that, being the "fattest nation" statistically, we are also the world's most athletic.

Just check the olympic medal count.

Talking to French television immediately after putting on his 62nd tour leader's yellow jersey, Armstrong singled out German fans for "disgusting" behaviour, though he later backed away from specifying a nationality.

Armstrong may have been given a hard time because of his long rivalry with German Jan Ullrich, who is now almost eight minutes adrift.

Anything to attack the French eh?

So, as American Lance Armstrong goes for his 7th Tour De France win

Isn't it actually his sixth?

I'm not from America and i'm not starving (far from it), I'm also probably thinner than you, fitter than you and stronger than you are or could ever hope to be...

So you stick to your pathetic ideals about other countries, because we all know its only because your a fat bastard who's too lazy to lose weight.

Actually, if you consider Europe as one, with similar overall population to the U.S., you'll find that Europe as a whole does much better than the U.S.

I don't think it would be fair to expect a country of 60 million or less to compete against a country of 300 million do you?

To that I can agreee, but that is somewhat offset by the fact that in the US, all olympians have to be amature, and from what I understand a lot of European nations actually pay their olympians.

Thus, often the very best Americans are taken up by pro sports on the 1st place

It's not so much that they are paid, but they are sponsored by their countries, which pick up the tab for lodging, transportation and training.

As far as the U.S. team being strictly amateur, I don't think that's the case anymore. Remember the U.S. Olympic "Dream Team" basketball team? Michael Jordan, Majic Johnson, Larry Bird.... hardly amateurs.

Also, I believe the U.S. hockey team is now mostly made up of pro hockey players, who ironically are mostly Canadian.

Years ago, an NFL football player was on the U.S. bobsled team because of his sprinting abilities.

Even the pinkos on this board have to admit that this is just wrong. Spitting on Armstrong just because he's an American and they are French.

Why can't the people that support this action just admit that they don't believe in "communism" "trotskyism" etc.... they just hate America in any way, shape, or form. It goes beyond politics.

Sabocat
23rd July 2004, 10:24
If you read at the beginning of this thread. Armstrong made it pretty clear that the worst offenders were the German fans, not the French. I suspect it is because Armstrong is beating the favored German (Ullrich) racer......again.

But, yes, spitting on Armstrong is wrong. He's just an athlete. It is however easy to understand the anti-American sentiment in Europe though. Especially in "Old" Europe as Rumsfeld so rediculously named them.

Y2A
23rd July 2004, 10:30
Actually this happened last year aswell. And it was the french then.

Also, most U.S olympians are amateurs. The dream team is long dead, no actual MLB players play for the national team, and all the other things are gay individual sports that nobody gives a damn about. Figure skating a sport! The ancient greeks would have looked down on this piece of crap.

Gay individual sports as opposed to heterosexual individual sports? I wasn't aware that they had seperated them that way. <_<

Actually, all of the original Greek Olympic Games were individual sport. Team sport is a relatively new concept in the Games.

It doesn't.

I was really responding to a post that America was "the world's fattest nation". Its probably true, but then you have to look at the other side too. We are also a very active and hard-working nation. Yeah, we like to eat, but we also work very hard and play very hard, and there is plenty of muscle under the fat as well.

Thats all I'm saying.
