Fortunately, there will never be Islamic unity. They're all different from one another and hostile to each other, thank God.

This is why we must protect our interests, our territory and our heritage. In this context, I prefer a regime like that of Saddam Hussein to, say, Saudi Arabia. The Ba'ath regime is secular and even permissive toward other religions. Saudi Arabia is massively funding the spread of Islam. It, rather than Iraq, should be viewed as a dangerous movement of conquest."

The Muslim veil - "It protects us from ugly women."

A non-Christian president in France - "I am against it. I believe the president should belong to the religion and culture of the majority of the citizens."

Just a few quotes from that interview. Where the fuck did they find that man? And has France gone completely insane?

I bet that the American Government (in their secret location), are having a few champagnes over this victory.

How terrible it is!

Did you guys know that the origin of the veil has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. At the time of the prophet Mohammad only the prophet's wives were obliged to wear them. The veil was originally introduced in the Byzantine Empire, and it was just the constrained to the wives of upper-class merchants and politicians in order to distinguish them from other (common) women.

However, after the expansion of the Islamic Empire this tradition was adapted by muslims as well, and due to the increasing influence of the religious scholar within the Islamic state(a post which never existed during the lifetime of the prophet), this tradition became a law and was wrongly attributed to Islam.

I don't know why Westerners ego-maniacs that they are automatically assume that everyone else needs to be like them. Woman who veil are not respressed or anything, they do it as a respect for themselves and their religion. Did any of you guys see that dumb Barbara Walters special? She asked these Muslim woman if they wanted to be like American women. How stupid and ignorant can you be.

Bush Jr must of got a double helping of stupidity and ignorance seeing as it comes from both his mother and father.

Personally, I think the veil is probably not necesary in Islam, but a lot of scholars disagree. In places like Jordan and Palestine you almost never see any women with veils, just the traditional hijaba and some of them don't even cover their hair.

I understand it's not even required in Saudi Arabia or Iran.

I thought that the clothes that Islamic women wear were designed to protect women from being viewed as sex objects.

However now that in many places it's been forced on them it's been used to oppress women and turn them into like sex objects for their husbands.

Too bad French presidential hopefuls aren't forced to wear veils! There should be a law stating that anyone who makes an unfair generalization about millions of people will have an obligation to be better than every single one of those people in the way that they are accused of being inferior. For example: Le Pen should be forced to have facelifts and liposuction until he's 1/2" wide and twitching his lips. But even then, he will have absolutely no right to say something so wrong and stupid.

I thought they were all from Somalia and Puerto Rico. (And Vermont! :)) Anyway, I'm sure that Le Pen hasn't been crowned Miss Universe in recent memory.

Personally, I like veils. Generally for superficial reasons like they can look lovely depending on the fabric, etc. Same with Indian saris.

Also, there's the fact that most of the Middle East is desert, therefore when a dust storm kicks up, veils would prove quite handy to have, to keep the sand from whipping around the face.

Veils are shit,
I went to Iran, and in the hot of Summer, 40 DEgrees, and the govt forced women to wear Veil and massive cloak, they musta burnt up in summers, they wear it all year round.
Should be matter of choice.
As for the argument that it doesnt let women become sex objects, then surely education is better than a veil?

Any separation of men and women for religious principles is pathetically lame. The women inevitably become an alienated, subservient class. Fuck religion.

Just to clarify this, Mohammad said that women should only show their faces and hands in public.

I'm not disagreeing with you, FtWfTn, because pop culture definitely makes lots of girls feel bad about their bodies and can make them think that all that matters is how they look, not how smart, kind, interesting or funny they are. But, unfortunately, there are way too many people who are judgemental of women who wear what they like. I wear tank tops, miniskirts, etc. not because I'm vying for attention (I've already got a boyfriend anyway), but because it gets way too fucking hot here in the summer and there are plenty of tank tops, miniskirts, etc. that I like. Some people need to take a step back and stop disrespecting others for decisions they make that don't hurt anyone.

the problem is that the naked body has become this huge taboo, it is neither anything bad nor something special, its simply flesh! i dont care what people wear, however i respect people who are faithful to their religion(as long as their religiousness dosnt impeed on my freedom)

Sorry I will Deny You but there are plenty of girls at my school especially who act and dress whorish (if thats a word) and I find it degrating even as a male. But I respect the reason you have. And I didn't mean everyone in general. . . .so I'm sorry if you took that wrong.
